Zorro will ride again in a new television series -- this time in the modern-day.

Secuoya Studios is currently developing a new "El Zorro" series. Joining the project is John Gertz, the founder of Zorro Studios and a producer on several Zorro-related projects. Andy Kaplan and Jesús Torres will also serve as producers on the series, which is said to have a "large female presence."

"This is one of the biggest IPs, not only in the Spanish-speaking territories, but the world," Secuoya Head of Fiction David Martínez said in a statement. Other projects in development at Secouya include a horror series with Jaume Balgueró as director and a comic with a Latinx superhero by Underworld co-creator Kevin Grevioux.

Created by pulp writer Johnston McCulley, Zorro is the alter ego of Diego de la Vega, who fights injustice as the masked swashbuckler. Zorro has been the focus of many comic books and films, including The Mask of Zorro and its sequel The Legend of Zorro, which starred Antonio Banderas as the masked swordsman.

Secuoya is not the only studio to develop a series based on Zorro. Robert Rodriguez and his sister Rebecca, alongside Sofia Vergara and her LatinWe banner, are also developing a contemporary drama that features a female version of Zorro in the modern-day.
