Some characters in the world of anime are ideal role models for young viewers, often shonen protagonists or shojo heroines with noble aspirations and model personalities. Other times, though, a major or minor character might rub everyone else the wrong way and quickly get on their nerves. And there's no shortage of these characters.

Among all annoying anime characters, some are simply cheaply designed comic relief, while others are better-rounded, likable characters who are simply overbearing to the other characters. Some of them can be downright lovable or sympathetic, but they are liable to irritate and infuriate everyone around them. Who might these pests be in the world of anime?

10 Zenitsu Agatsuma Won't Stop Crying & Panicking (Demon Slayer)

Zenitsu screaming during one of his tangents in Demon Slayer.

As a whole, the Demon Slayer franchise is beloved for its richly animated fights, its incredible emotional impact, and its stylish early modern Japanese setting. In the middle of all this, demon slayers are expected to fight demons without fear, but then there's the matter of Zenitsu Agatsuma.

Zenitsu was actually forced to become a demon slayer, and it's clear that he can't stand this lifestyle. He is liable to panic or complain about anything, and he will even faint from terror. When he's awake, though, he tends to shout a lot, and it gets old fast. Even the kind Tanjiro Kamado is losing his patience.

9 Kon Is A Stuffed Animal With A Huge Yapper (Bleach)

Kon in bleach

Kon wasn't originally a stuffed lion. He is a mod-soul, a piece of candy that can animate a person's body with a substitute soul for combat purposes. All mod-souls were recalled for destruction, but Kon remained, and he once ran around in Ichigo Kurosaki's body, stirring up trouble.

It's simply Kon's nature to cause a ruckus and act on his every whim, and he tends to raise his voice a lot or complain about the tiniest thing. He also has a habit of shamelessly chasing after attractive girls like Orihime Inoue and Rangiku Matsumoto, despiting having no real shot with them.

8 Misa Amane Is A Willing Tool & Rather Petty, Too (Death Note)

A grim series like this one needs some comic relief, but arguably, the creators went a bit too far when they designed Misa Amane, the second Kira. Misa does have her tragic backstory -- she witnessed the murder of her parents, and no one else could bring justice to her family than Kira. So, she idolizes Light Yagami.

Misa is a cheerful and fun-loving person, but too often, Misa is impulsive, reckless, petty, or obnoxious about it, and both Light and the detective L get tired of it. Still, when Light was missing his memories, he was highly protective of her. Light found Misa annoying, but he could never hate her.

7 Neito Monoma Just Won't Shut Up About Class 1-A (My Hero Academia)

Neito Monoma grinning in frustration in My Hero Academia

No student in U.A.'s Class 1-B is more competitive and spiteful than the blond Neito Monoma. No one can blame Class 1-B's students for wanting to prove their worth to Class 1-A, but Neito takes it to a ludicrous extreme, and his classmates are starting to get embarrassed for him.

Neito will never miss a chance to mock, criticize or harass Class 1-A's students, and it usually falls to Itsuka Kendo to shut him up. He's not all talk, though; Neito has some appreciable skills with his Copy Quirk, and even copied Bakugo's Explosion ability once.

6 Sakura Haruno Keeps Trying To Do The Wrong Things (Naruto)

The anime community often cruelly mocks Sakura Haruno as being "useless Sakura," though she does have some shinobi skills, such as her chakra-fueled taijutsu and her advanced medical jutsu, courtesy of lady Tsunade. It is much more difficult, however, to defend Sakura's personality.

From the very start, Sakura irritated fans and other characters alike with her single-minded and selfish fixation on Sasuke Uchiha, and she callously ignored and mocked Naruto for being an obstacle in her eyes. She also has an explosive temper, endearing her to no one. Later, Sakura tried to make amends with Naruto, with iffy results at best. Her personal life is practically a trainwreck in the original series.

5 Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki Is Incredibly Vain & Overestimates Himself (Fairy Tail)

ichiya fairy tail

Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki belongs to the Blue Pegasus guild, which is noted for having more than a few handsome men in its ranks. Ichiya believes he is the most handsome of them all, but most outside observers feel very differently. Ichiya seems unaware of this.

In most of his appearances, Ichiya comes on too strongly, being a loud and flamboyant fellow with an inflated sense of self. He annoys and irritates everyone, mostly Erza Scarlet, with his overblown ladies-man routine, and he needs to cool it already. Some honest self-assessment is due.

4 Tamaki Kotatsu Is Almost Entirely Fanservice & Complaints (Fire Force)

Fire Force's Tamaki Kotatsu.

Tamaki Kotatsu is a professional fire soldier, and she knows her duty. However, the narrative seems determined to paint her in an unflattering light. Tamaki is well-known for her excessive fanservice, which is pretty R-rated and is done in considerable excess.

This gets old fast, and worse yet, Tamaki tends to complain and whine about nearly everything and criticizes everyone around her too much. It's not all bad news, though; Tamaki is brave when facing the enemy, and she is making a sincere effort to become a stronger fighter. And it's paying off.

3 Ginro Keeps Goofing Off, Much To Kinro's Dismay (Dr. Stone)

Ginro is one of the two bridge guards of Ishigami village, along with his big brother Kinro. As the Japanese translations of their names suggest, Ginro is fond of silver and Kinro loves all things gold, but between them, Kinro is a much better representation of what Ishigami village is capable of.

Ginro, by contrast, is impulsive, loud-mouthed, and tends to panic when the slightest thing goes wrong. From time to time, Ginro has a moment of glory, but overall, he needs to get his act together to better serve the Kingdom of Science.

2 Aqua Hardly Act Like A Divine Being (Konosuba)

aqua from konosuba

In this isekai world, it helps to have a god or goddess around to help... unless it's Aqua in particular. In theory, Aqua is vastly powerful, being a goddess who can purify water, exorcise the undead, and break curses. In practice, though, she is a huge drag from dawn to dusk.

Aqua's skills rarely come into play. Instead, she is spoiled rotten while adventuring with Kazuma, expecting to get all the creature comforts in the world without having to pay for them. Aqua is liable to whine about anything and everything, mock others, act high and mighty, and run in terror when the fighting starts.

1 Excalibur Is Tarnishing King Arthur's Legacy (Soul Eater)

Anime Soul Eater Excalibur Filler

In this dark action fantasy series, weapons are people, such as Soul Eater Evans, and they have their own personalities. However, the famed sword Excalibur is an entirely different matter -- a short and strange creature who is obsessed with its own rules.

Excalibur promises great power to whoever can wield him in battle and observe his rules, but his rules are numerous and ridiculous, and Excalibur won't stop singing about his own greatness. This sword is best left in the stone, where it can't annoy anyone.
