An Italian voice actor who worked on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild may have revealed some major details regarding the game's long-awaited sequel.

A Reddit user recently posted a YouTube video to the popular subreddit r/GamingLeaksandRumours. The video contains a brief conversation with Pietro Ubaldi, an Italian voice actor who has lent his vocal talents to the Italian dubs of Scooby-Doo, Overwatch, Doraemon, SpongeBob Squarepants and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In that game and its prequel, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Ubaldi voices Daruk, the champion of the rock-like Gorons.

By the time of Breath of the Wild, Daruk is long dead, featuring only in flashbacks and as a spirit. This fact makes it especially important that Ubaldi is apparently appearing in the game's sequel as one of Daruk's ancestors. Ubaldi claims to have recently recorded lines for an ancestor of Daruk, although he doesn't remember the character's name. He describes him as "a bit more serious" than his eventual descendant.

If Ubaldi's description of the character is accurate, it could mean that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will involve some kind of time travel, allowing Link to commune with the ancient ancestors of the champions from the original title or at least flashbacks to events occurring far before the original game. Considering Daruk has already been dead for nearly a century by the time Breath of the Wild begins, any story involving one of his ancestors would certainly take place in the distant past.

It's worth keeping in mind that Ubaldi doesn't seem entirely sure of anything in the video interview. He doesn't remember the name of Daruk's supposed ancestor, and while it seems evident that the project he's recording for is the sequel to Breath of the Wild, he doesn't explicitly mention that. He only describes it as a "game that has yet to come out." Ubaldi's description of Daruk's ancestor is not airtight confirmation of anything just yet, but it does suggest that the scope of the sequel to Breath of the Wild may be much larger than players have assumed up to this point.

The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released in the spring of 2023 following a recent delay. When it does come out, it will join The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on the Nintendo Switch.
