On all adventures, both free-roaming and guided, there are items for Link to grab and use. And while it is easy just to use them how they were originally intended, why not experiment a little? That's half the fun of the game, after all.

10 Feed The Dogs And Earn A Companion

While it's disappointing the dogs can not be pet, there are still ways to have them warm up to Link. The best way? Use the meat he has collected.

Instead of using the meat for cooking food or sellin it for rupees, place it down in front of a dog to gain its trust. They'll either show Link to a hidden treasure or just hang around and follow him for a bit.

9 Rusted Weapons Made New With Octoroks

While it's easy to just use the weapons as is and not fix them, there is a way to get rusted weapons back to top shape. Once a rusted weapon is collected, take it to a rock octorok. The rock octoroks take in air and blow out burning rocks.

But if a rusted weapon is dropped in front of them, when they go to suck in the air again, they'll take the weapon with them and spit it out, polished like new. Just now that, even if the rusted weapon is one thing, it can come out as a slightly different variation.

8 Tree Trunks Make Great Launchers

Have someplace to go and running to get there just isn't fast enough? Tree trunks are absolutely a great mode of transportation. Instead of cutting them down to use for wood, have the stasis rune ready for use.

Chop them down in the direction Link needs to go, and right as they begin to fall, use stasis. Hit the trunk as many times as needed, and then hop on and cling on for dear life as Link soars through the sky as if riding on a missile.

7 Use Chuchu Jellies For Heat Invulnerability

Accidentally landed in a heated situation? In high-temperature areas, while using heat-resistant gear and potions are the easiest option, chuchu jellies can also be used in desperate times.

When the jellies are hit, they dispense water. Pull out a chuchu jelly and place it on the ground. Strike it while standing near it, and Link will gain 30 seconds of heat invulnerability.

flying link in BOTW

Not only do spicy peppers work great to cook in dishes, but they can also be used to create an updraft for Link to use and take flight. There are a couple ways to do this, too. For a quick boost of air, just drop one pepper and light the area around it on fire with either a fire arrow or weapon. To go higher, drop a couple down.

The extra peppers will be carried up with the wind, so before they fall, just send another fire arrow in the direction of the peppers and create a new gust of wind.

5 Collect Arrows With A Wooden Shield

Link with wooden shield and arrow in BOTW

Defensively, shields only last so long. But what's great about the wooden ones is, while Link is getting nailed with arrows, he can collect the ones that stick to his shield.

As the bokoblins are aiming for Link, letting them continuously shoot guarantees a few arrows to land on the wooden shield. And by putting the shield away, they're automatically added to the inventory.

4 Octo Balloons Can Create Dropping Doom

The octo balloons are definitely fun to stick on to random items and see them float. But they're also a great weapon, too. Link can sneak up to a camp of sleeping monsters and quietly attach one to a bomb barrel.

As it floats up higher and higher, once the octo balloon pops, it'll send the barrel hurtling back to the ground and cause a big explosion. Perfect for wearing down, if not instantly killing, a big group of enemies.

feeding horse an endura carrot in BOTW

When it comes to speed, these carrots are great for adding a boost of stamina when cooked. But Link isn't the only one who can benefit from snacking on these.

Give Link's horse a raw endura carrot to increase their stamina by three. And as long as the horse isn't pushed too hard, it'll maintain those three extra boosts.

2 Lure Out Animals With Food

Sometimes, collecting fish is tiring. But there is a way to lure some out of their hiding. Some fish and items have similar names, like the Hyrule bass and Hylian shroom.

If an item is dropped with a similar name into the water, some of the fish will be pulled out and take the bait. From there, just toss a bomb and kill them to capture. This works with other items like animals. Most of the time, for animals, their bait is similar to what it would be in real life.

1 Use Campfires To Weigh Down Switches

Accidentally leave a block needed to complete a shrine on the opposite side? Have no fear. Why use a metal box when campfires are surprisingly very heavy? The wood bundles are heavy as is.

If a bundle is placed on top of a switch and lit on fire to create a campfire, it will actually hold down the switch entirely. It's a great trick to keep in mind for the weight-related shrines, especially the ones where it's easy to lose the blocks.
