Actor Zazie Beetz, who played the lucked-based hero Domino in Deadpool 2, and her partner David Rysdahl are reportedly creating a modern adaptation of one of the most recognizable stories from the Brothers Grimm.

According to Screen Rant, Beetz and Rysdahl are working on an updated sequel to the fairytale story of Rapunzel that will see the character's long hair replaced by a giant afro. "There's something I can't talk about but it's going to be exciting. But Zazie [Beetz] and I write a lot. I have a couple of scripts. We have a production company and we write a lot," Rysdahl stated. "So we are making a Rapunzel story, kind of what happens after, for Zazie. She'll have a huge afro. That's something we're excited about writing…[Zazie's playing Rapunzel] in the script that we made! Yeah. She's gonna kill it. She's so good."

Since joining the cast of FX's Atlanta in 2016, Beetz has appeared in films like Deadpool 2, as well as critically claimed films like Todd Phillips' Joker, Jeymes Samuel's The Harder They Fall and Edson Oda's Nine Days. She has also lent her voice to animated television series like Seth Green and Matthew Senreich's Robot Chicken and Prime Video's animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's Invincible comic series. Rysdahl has multiple acting credits as well; he appeared in Cathy Yan's Dead Pigs and Damian Power's No Exit.

Beetz and Rysdahl's reimagined-fairytale movie will be produced by their own production company, Sleepy Poppy, which the couple established prior to the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Beyond Beetz's role as the titular character, there are currently no details about other members of the cast or information about who will join the two on the production team.

Beetz and Rysdahl's Rapunzel project isn't the only upcoming film that offers a new spin on a classic fairytale tale. Notably, actor Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White in Disney's live-action remake and though the casting choice garnered some criticism, Zegler appears ecstatic about the role.

"... You don't particularly see people who look like me or are me playing roles like that. When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because all of the people were angry," she said. "At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I'm really excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess."

Directed by Marc Webb, Disney's Snow White does not yet have a release date.
