WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Zack Snyder's Justice League, now streaming on HBO Max.

When Zack Snyder kicked off the DC Extended Universe, it appeared as if Superman was his favorite hero. The fact the director went straight from Man of Steel into Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, pushing for the Kryptonian to be positioned as the key against the forces of Apokolips further proved that point. However, as Zack Snyder's Justice League shows, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is the character the director wanted to shine above all the rest.

Since the casting process began, Snyder has made it clear Gal is his Wonder Woman, and come BvS, Diana gets a lot of screen-time as she helps the Batman and Superman defeat Doomsday. Now, Snyder doubles down on that in this film, giving Wonder Woman some of the movie's most bombastic sequences. In the bank robbery, her super-speed comes off better than Superman or the Flash's, as it feels like the audience is seeing a warrior naturally move at supersonic speed.

His passion to showcase Diana continues when she fights the Parademons, and she's actually given the first crack at Steppenwolf when he kidnaps Silas Stone. She gets the most emotional connection with the villain when he makes it clear from his taunts he's got a vendetta against her and her people. On top of that, she's also the one to bring information about Darkseid's to Bruce. Snyder also plays up her godhood, and once again, gives depth to Paradise Island and the distance between her and her mom, Hippolyta.

Diana's pain is obvious through the film, Snyder spends more time on it than the rest of the League gets with their families. But apart from Diana's scenes having more heart, the way Snyder makes her the MVP of the final act says it all. Throughout the film, she gets plenty of action shots, meaning it would be fair to assume when Superman returns, he'd be the one finish off Steppenwolf.

Zack Snyder's Justice League - Aquaman, Cyborg and Wonder Woman

However, in a stunning turn of events, after Aquaman impales him on the trident and Superman punches him towards the Boom Tube to Apokolips, Diana makes an acrobatic leap and cuts the villain's head off. As she lands, it's clear this is her moment of glory because, after all, her people are the ones with the biggest vendetta against Darkseid. The forces of Apokolips know Kryptonians and Atlanteans are formidable opponents, but Snyder really wants them to fear Wonder Woman and Themyscira, which Darkseid takes note of when he closes the rift.

Zack Snyder's Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ray Porter as Darkseid, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. The film is currently available on HBO Max.
