It appears comic books will mean third time’s a charm for the director of “300” and “Watchmen.”
As broken on The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Warner Bros. Pictures has tapped director Zack Snyder to helm the next big screen installment of its “Superman” franchise. Snyder reportedly beat out a wide-ranging list of potential directors including Darren Aronofsky and Tony Scott
The Superman franchise has been in flux since the mixed critical and financhial reaction to 2006’s Bryan Singer effort “Superman Returns.” In recent months, “Dark Knight” helmer Christopher Nolan stepped on as producer to reboot the Man of Steel’s screen exploits -Â a critical franchise for Warners in their attempts to make the DC Comics Universe its lynchpin summer blockbuster IP farm.
The film (which doesn’t have a title as of yet) will come from a screenplay by frequent Nolan collaborator David S. Goyer and will apparently feature the villain General Zod -Â made famous in the classic Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve versions of the character.
Synder’s latest movie is the CGI family flick “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole,” but his next live action feature will be “Sucker Punch.”
