SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," available now Blu-Ray and DVD.
The Man of Steel may have been been absent from the recent "Justice League" images, but director Zack Snyder says fans can expect Superman to have a big part in the upcoming film.
Following his death in the climactic battle with Doomsday in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," there's been question over what part -- and how large of a part -- Superman will play in the upcoming "Justice League" film. According to a recent interview Snyder gave to "Empire" magazine (via Batman News), Zack Snyder is finally giving some insight into what part Superman will play in DC's next film.
"Superman does play a big part in this movie," said Snyder of Superman's role in "Justice League." "His presence, and lack of presence, are big story points." Given that Superman (Henry Cavill) has been the centerpiece of DC's fledgling film universe since it launched in 2013 with "Man of Steel," it shouldn't come as a surprise that his death and likely resurrection will loom large over "Justice League."
It's a foregone conclusion that the Man of Steel will make his return to the DCEU, and "Justice League" is the logical spot for it to happen. There have been a few "JL" teasers for the iconic black costume from DC Comics' 1993 storyline "Reign of the Supermen." That storyline capped the yearlong "Death and Return of Superman" arc, elements of which played out in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Directed by Zack Snyder, “Justice League” stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Raymond Fisher, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen and J.K. Simmons. The film opens Nov. 17.
