The last time Zack Snyder was involved in the DC Extended Universe, he left the production of Justice League to deal with a family tragedy. Despite that, Snyder is nowhere near finished with his work in the DCEU and is coming back for more as an executive producer on The Suicide Squad.

Buried in the story that Warner Bros. hired James Gunn to direct the new adventures of the Suicide Squad was the news that both Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are executive producers on the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This isn't the only upcoming DCEU movie on which Snyder serves as an executive producer. In May 2018, Snyder said he was producing the second Wonder Woman movie, with Patty Jenkins returning as the director.

Now, he is coming on board to work with former Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who looks to bring his unique sensibilities to the DCEU.

Snyder got his start in the DCEU by bringing Superman back to the big screen in 2013's Man of Steel. He followed up with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. He also executive produced the first Suicide Squad movie, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

On top of producing the DC Comics adaptations, news also just broke that Snyder was returning to the zombie genre 15 years after making his big screen debut with the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

The new movie, Army of the Dead, will be a heist movie taking place during a zombie outbreak -- something Snyder called a "palate cleanser" for him since stepping away from directing DCEU movies.

The Suicide Squad is in pre-production and has no official cast yet. The movie will hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
