Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg responded to rumors The Flash will do away with the SnyderVerse.

On Twitter, Sandberg jokingly responded to the originator of a recent rumor that The Flash will end with that movie's titular hero teaming up with Supergirl and Shazam to form a new version of the Justice League with a meme of Milhouse Van Houten from The Simpsons. Sandberg went on to clarify that, while he does know some details about The Flash, he doesn't know much specifically. That lack of knowledge seems to extend to whether or not the original poster's claim is true.

Earlier this month, a rumor popped up that The Flash would erase the various DC Extended Universe movies helmed by original franchise architect Zack Snyder, which include Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Shortly after that rumor dropped, Ezra Miller, who plays Barry Allen/Flash in the DCEU, reportedly denied the rumor.

At this time, plot details on The Flash are scarce. However, the movie, which has spent nearly a decade in some stage of development, is seemingly drawing inspiration from Flashpoint, a 2011 crossover by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert that saw Barry traveling back in time to prevent the murder of his mother. In the process, he changes the DC Universe in a big way and ended up re-writing comics continuity, resulting in the New 52 relaunch.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a sequel to 2019's Shazam!, which moved the DCEU in a decidedly lighter direction after the darker Snyder films. Right now, there's little known about the plot of the film, which will feature Billy Batson/Shazam (Zachary Levi) teaming up with the rest of his foster family. Shazam! Fury of the Gods will feature Hellen Mirren and Lucy Liu as the villainous Hespera and Kalypso, respectively. Production on the film was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash also stars Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. They'll be joined by Michael Shannon as General Zod, Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West.

Directed by Sandberg from a script by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, Shazam: Fury of the Gods is set to be released on June 2, 2023.
