Zack Snyder shared that if Warner Bros. had given his Snyderverse the greenlight, Barbara Gordon's Batgirl would have had a larger role to play in his Justice League trilogy.

"I always wanted Barbara Gordon to come in the movies," Snyder told Esquire on the day of his highly anticipated Justice League debut on HBO Max. The director added, "Commissioner Gordon would be on the way out, and we'd have Barbara starting to play a bigger role."

Snyder added that his plan for the films included Batman sacrificing himself, which would have left a window open where there was no Batman. He continued, "And I thought Barbara could fill that [window] until the child of Superman and Lois, who has no powers, would become Batman when he was of age."

"It just seemed to make sense, " Snyder continued. "Then, of course, Barbara could have been his mentor, but who knows? That's all just...see now we're just wishful thinking."

Snyder's comments came shortly after Warner Bros. seemingly confirmed that its highly anticipated Batgirl film is still in development. The reveal appeared to happen while DC projects were being discussed during AT&T's Analyst & Investor Day 2021 presentation.

While a Batgirl project wasn't specifically mentioned, a graphic appeared on-screen showing numerous logos for various DC movies, shows and video games -- including Batgirl's logo.
