Zack Snyder's Justice League will stream on HBO Max as a four-hour long film, as opposed to its originally-announced episodic release.

As Snyder explained to IGN, his Justice League cut's episodic rollout "got complicated," presumably for contractual reasons. However, he argued it's for the best, saying viewers "would've been mad if they had to wait weeks" for all of the episodes to become available to watch at once. Instead, the project will stream as a single movie with a six-chapter structure, which is what Snyder had in mind when he shot the film.

Despite being released as a continuous film, Justice League producer Deborah Snyder doesn't believe people should watch the project all at once. "I'll give you a tip about viewing it," she said. "I know a lot of fans are going to want to watch it straight through. But it also has parts. And what HBO Max is able to do is there's going to be a timeline on the bottom, where you see the timeline of the thing, there's going to be little indentations because each part has a title. And it's kind of thematic."

The Snyders are no strangers to releasing extended versions of their movies. In the past, they've produced "Ultimate" editions of 2009's Watchmen and 2016's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of the Justice, both of which added more than twenty minutes of additional footage to the films' theatrical cuts. Batman v. Superman's extra material was enough to bump DC's tentpole up to an R rating, with Zack Snyder's Justice League landing the same rating for "violence and some language." The latter movie will further distinguish itself by only using the footage Snyder shot prior to departing as director in May 2017 and Joss Whedon's subsequent reshoots.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, determined to ensure Superman’s ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne aligns forces with Diana Prince with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.

Zack Snyder's Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ray Porter as Darkseid, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. The film arrives on HBO Max March 18.
