WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Zack Snyder's Justice League, now streaming on HBO Max.

Zack Snyder's Justice League made several changes and additions to the film that was released in 2017, with much of its cast receiving more development and critical scenes. The biggest improvements in characterization and depth were easily Cyborg and the Flash, but another superhero was also given a pivotal scene to show off her powers.

Mera only appeared briefly in the theatrical version of Justice League, which really only established enough for her to show back up in 2018's Aquaman. Now, this new version of the film drastically changes Mera's accent, but it also expands on how versatile and potentially lethal her powers are.

Mera vs. Steppenwolf

Close to the halfway point of Zack Snyder's Justice League, Steppenwolf attacks Atlantis, seeking the Mother Box guarded there. Before Aquaman arrives, Mera and the Atlantean guards surround the artifact and she tries to create an aquashield to defend herself. Steppenwolf breaks through this, though, and Mera's quickly thrown up against a wall and put into a chokehold by her much larger opponent, She turns the tables, however, by using her signature power.

Mera uses hydrokinesis, waterbending the fluid within Steppenwolf. This not only draws out the water inside of and around him, but also seems to pull out a small amount of blood. Noticing this, Steppenwolf angrily throws her to the ground, readying his ax for the kill. Aquaman arrives in time to save her, but the fact that she literally drew blood out of the New God speaks volumes.

Mera's Hydrokinesis

Outside of Darkseid himself, Steppenwolf would seem to be the most powerful being shown so far in the DC Extended Universe. Most of the members of the Justice League struggled against Steppenwolf's power, including Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Though they both put up a fight against him, they were never shown as truly having the potential to take him down. It's only when Superman returns that Steppenwolf is presented with an opponent not only on his level but stronger. This means that, with her hydrokinesis, Mera was perhaps the one to do the most damage against Steppenwolf besides Superman.

Hydrokinesis has always been one of Mera's unique powers, one which Aquaman himself does not possess. This makes her incredibly deadly, given that water is her natural element. She's able to not only manipulate water and other nearby fluids but as shown with Steppenwolf, she can also literally drain out their bodily fluids and use them offensively. She can also transform these fluids into hard water objects, much like how a Green Lantern can create constructs out of hard light.

The other Atlanteans didn't put up much of a fight at all against Steppenwolf, but an armed Mera was able to simply use his body's own liquids against him. It's possible that she could easily do the same against someone like Superman or even Darkseid in the Knightmare future of the DCEU.

Zack Snyder's Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ray Porter as Darkseid, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. The film is currently available on HBO Max.
