More than half of director Zack Snyder's version of Justice League will consist of footage shot but not included in its theatrical release.

Snyder led a discussion recently on Vero about the latest trailer for his Justice League cut, pointing out key moments that will be featured, scene-by-scene. He revealed that two-and-a-half hours of the four-hour running time comes from his work in 2016, as reported by Gizmodo.

Snyder only shot about four minutes of new film footage for its upcoming HBO Max release. The revised film includes other DC characters, such as Jared Leto reprising his role as The Joker from Suicide Squad. Snyder said visual effects remain to be approved, but the film is otherwise set.

Justice League was completed by director Joss Whedon, who came aboard after Snyder left the project due to a family tragedy. Whedon extensively reshot the movie, and the final theatrical version reportedly had only 10 percent of Snyder's footage. Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg, said all but one of his scenes were reshot.

Justice League was released in 2017 to a $93.8 million opening, eventually grossing $229 million domestically and $658 million globally. After its release, a fan campaign pushed for the release of Snyder's director's cut, and HBO Max put it on its roster in May 2020.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
