Darkseid is set to make his live-action film debut with Zack Snyder's Justice League. Now, Snyder has revealed some more details about this version of Darkseid regarding his motivations.

Snyder explained to IGN that Darkseid has "tons of human motivation," before going on to note that "he operates on another plane, but certainly, something happened to him in the past and he's not happy about it, and it's really hurt him."

"It's shaped him and he's looking to make it right," Snyder said. "And so I think there's a lot of nuance in him and Ray [Porter] does a great job of voicing him."

Darkseid was originally set to play a notable role in the theatrical cut of Justice League before largely getting cut out after Joss Whedon took over the project in reshoots. The character's only presence in that version of the movie is through a single mention by Steppenwolf. Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League intends to restore Darkseid's presence in the project, complete with retaining his original performer, Ray Porter.

Zack Snyder's Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ray Porter as Darkseid, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. The film arrives on HBO Max March 18.
