Zack Snyder celebrated the five-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Justice League with a heartwarming tribute to his daughter, Autumn. Snyder shared a black and white photo on his personal Twitter of the film reel of Justice League, which premiered in theaters in 2017. While acknowledging that it had been five years since the film was released, he also shared a touching tribute to his daughter, who died in 2017 as well. "Autumn used to sign everything with this quote - 'The goal is not to live forever, but to create something that does.' All of you who made JL real, honor her," Snyder tweeted. "Not only by your massive fundraising effort for mental health, but by having had a hand in creating something that will live forever. And for that, I am eternally grateful."RELATED: It's Time Zack Snyder Got One More Shot at the World's Finest

Autumn Snyder died in March 2017 while Snyder was directing Justice League. Her death forced him to leave production and cede duties to Joss Whedon who completed the superhero movie. Autumn, who was just 20 years old at the time, died by suicide after a long battle with depression. She had an uncredited role as a panicked civilian in the 2013 action movie, Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Superman.

Justice League was planned to be the third installment of a five-movie arc for Snyder in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) following Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Snyder was unable to complete Justice League in 2017, he was able to create his own version of the film, Zack Snyder's Justice League, which was released on HBO Max in March 2021. In February of that same year, Snyder revealed that his version of Justice League had been dedicated to Autumn. "Without her, this absolutely would not have happened," he said at the time.

Also called the Snyder Cut, Zack Snyder's Justice League will get a theatrical release in 2023 thanks to Directly Responsible: Face to Face With Filmmakers, a series of screenings and Q&A sessions organized by filmmaker Kevin Smith.

Will DC Studios #RestoretheSnyderVerse?

After James Gunn and Peter Safran were named co-chairs and co-CEOs of the new DC Studios by Warner Bros. Discovery, fans began to speculate that Snyder's potential return to DC was imminent. However, the director stated in a recent interview that DC Studios has not yet reached out to him. "As far I know, which is very little, I'm doing my thing and haven't had anyone give me a call or anything," Snyder said. "I'm just wishing them all the best and hoping they make some cool movies."

Zack Snyder's Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max. 2017's Justice League is also available on HBO Max, as well as Prime Video and Apple TV.
