Zack Snyder has delayed the start of production on his next movie, Horse Latitudes, citing issues related to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Screen Rant, Horse Latitudes centers on a pair of men who are inspired by a photograph to travel to South America. "Right now, we're just waiting a little bit, because the hope is to shoot that movie in South America," Snyder said. "Because COVID right now is pretty intense in that part of the world, so we're just waiting for hopefully some relief in order to get up and make that one."

Formerly titled The Last Photograph, Horse Latitudes has been in development since 2011, back when Sean Penn and Christian Bale were attached to star. While Snyder is tentatively planning to tackle the project as his followup to Netflix's Army of the Dead, he admitted "I do have another thing that I'm working on right now. Hopefully, we'll see if that comes together. Because it's pretty crazy."

Snyder originally wanted to make his planned film adaptation of Ayn Rand's controversial 1943 novel The Fountainhead after Army of the Dead. Recently, however, he admitted the current political climate just isn't right for the project. "It's a book that is so politically charged that we need a more liberal government to do The Fountainhead so that everyone won't freak out or something," he said.

The filmmaker's to-do list also includes a King Arthur retelling he's described as being "[a] real sort of faithful retelling of that Arthurian mythological concept." Snyder has further teased the possibility of an Army of the Dead sequel, in addition to the live-action prequel movie and anime-style series spinoff that are presently moving forward. "If it were possible, or if anyone was interested in [it, continuing] the adventures of [the Army of the Dead] world [would] be fun," he added.

The official synopsis for Netflix's Army of the Dead reads:

Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

Directed and co-written by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film arrives Friday, May 14, in theaters, and Friday, May 21, on Netflix.
