Following the announcement that Warner Bros. will release its entire 2021 slate on HBO Max, many prolific voices within cinema have voiced their support and rejection of the idea. Zack Snyder, who will see his highly anticipated four-hour-long version of Justice League stream on HBO Max, shared his thoughts on the matter. According to the director, the studio's decision struck him as a "knee-jerk" reaction to COVID-19 that, to him, wasn't "100 percent thought out."

"It felt like a pretty bold move and that maybe the implication wasn't 100 percent thought out," Snyder told EW. "I feel like there's a lot of people panicking during COVID. I hope that, in the end, that's what this was — some sort of knee-jerk to COVID and not some sort of greater move to disrupt the theatrical experience. I thought we were kind of already getting very close to the ideal theatrical window where you still had marketing material out there and you hadn't forgotten about the film by the time it came out on DVD or streaming. I thought we were starting to hone in on that sweet spot, but this kind of throws a monkey wrench in the works."

Recently, director Christoper Nolan slammed the idea, whereas both Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot both praised how Wonder Woman 1984 will launch on HBO Max at the same time as theaters -- reportedly receiving the princely sum of $10 million each to do so -- with industry bosses also throwing in their thoughts on the bold decision.

It's worth noting that despite HBO Max's support of Zack Snyder's Justice League, the director recently began lobbying to have the extended edition be granted a simultaneously theatrical run in the same vein as Wonder Woman 1984 when it eventually arrives on the streaming service. At the time of writing, no decision has been announced concerning whether Warner Bros. intends to deliver on Snyder's wishes. Additionally, it is unknown when Zack Snyder's Justice League will arrive on HBO Max, though WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar stated  fans can expect it "in a few months."

WarnerMedia announced plans that see its entire slate of 2021 films stream on HBO Max simultaneously with their theatrical releases. The full HBO Max 2021 movie lineup includes The Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah, Tom & Jerry, Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In The Heights, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Reminiscence, Malignant, Dune, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard, Cry Macho and Matrix 4.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
