Warner Bros. recently teased many of its upcoming projects at WB. Discovery Upfront event. However, with the lack of projects related to Zack Snyder, fans of the former film franchise found the fuel to continue the #RestoretheSnyderVerse campaign.

All over social media, fans criticized the Warner Bros. presentation and called for the continuation of Zack Snyder's Justice League film series, or attention to director David Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad. While some declared they would persist in effort to bring attention to both, others claimed they were finished with Warner Bros. projects entirely.

In 2021, almost five years after the theatrical release of Justice League, Zack Snyder was able to release his completed cut of the film on the HBO Max streaming service. This followed years of campaigning from fans, who called on Warner Bros. to give Snyder the budget and time to complete his version, which they believed would surpass the quality and success of director Joss Whedon's version.

After years of silence on the subject, Warner Bros. announced that it would provide Snyder with a budget to finish work on his cut, which predominately required visual effects work to be completed. The finished film, Zack Snyder's Justice League, featured a largely new storyline, subplots and a host of new characters, including actor Jared Leto's surprising return as the Joker. Even with a runtime of approximately 4 hours, the film was forced to cut major characters, such as Green Lantern, who was to be played by actor Wayne T. Carr.

The movement was seemingly replaced almost immediately after the release of the Snyder Cut, by the #RestoretheSnyderverse movement, which calls for Warner Bros. to reinstate Snyder as the head of its growing DC Extended Universe. The filmmaker had held the position until 2016, when he was forced to depart from Justice League owing to a family tragedy. Neither Snyder nor Warner Bros. have announced any plans to continue the previous iteration of the DCEU. The franchise saw a soft reboot with the release of Aquaman, which was followed by a string of notably more lighthearted films, such as Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984.

In addition, fans are calling for the release of Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad, which has seemingly become an example of the negative impact of studio interference. The 2016 film was written in just six weeks and, after production had completed, was forced to go through reshoots to change its overall tone and more. Ayer has commented on the theatrical release of Suicide Squad and in a lengthy statement wrote, "The studio cut is not my movie."
