The Joker famously killed Jason Todd, the second Robin, in the comics. In director Zack Snyder's vision for the DC Extended Universe, the Clown Prince of Crime also murdered a Robin, but it wasn't Jason.

A Robin costume vandalized by The Joker appears in a memorial case in Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, leading fans to theorize it was a nod to Jason's demise. Director David Ayer's Suicide Squad subsequently alluded to the death of a Robin in a deleted scene. But Snyder made fans question which Robin in April when  he said, "What makes you think it's Jason?"

Was he instead Dick Grayson, the first Robin, or could it have been someone else? Snyder finally removed any doubt on the social-media platform Vero, where he corrected a fan's reference to Jason by writing simply, "Richard."

It's unclear what Snyder's full vision was for the original Robin, and whether director Matt Reeves will keep that element in his Batman movie (as it's heavily rumored to depict a younger Dark Knight, that seems unlikely). While Snyder is a producer on Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984, the filmmaker is no longer appears to have a significant role in the DCEU's future. That means many of the seeds he planted in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League will likely never come to fruition.
