Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is eager to work with Henry Cavill again following the announcement that he's returned as the DC Universe's Superman.

During with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Cavill received a video question from Snyder, who was on the set of his new Netflix movie Rebel Moon. The director asked the Superman actor to reflect on their early flying scenes and ended the video message by saying, "I can’t wait to work with you again." Following an extended absence from the role, Cavill is officially back as the last son of Krypton, finally suiting back up as the DCU superhero in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam.

Cavill, who discussed his return at length during the live taping of Happy Sad Confused, thanked Snyder for his message. "He’s a lovely man, and I am enormously appreciative for everything he’s done for me," he said. "Those are formative memories of mine, career-wise. It is when everything changed. I remember them fondly. … Zack if you are watching … thank you, my friend."

Whilst the actor first stepped into the iconic role in Man of Steel before reprising it in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League, the Black Adam cameo marks Cavill's first time playing Superman in five years. The Witcher star confirmed on social media shortly after the reveal that it wasn't a one-time deal but "a very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded."

Cavill explained that he actually had to get permission from the crew of Netflix's The Witcher to shoot his cameo for Black Adam, but since his involvement in the DC film was "so top secret" he couldn't reveal what he was going to go do at the time. As for what is potentially to come from the Man of Steel sequel, THR reports that Warner Bros. is currently taking pitches from writers. Cavill himself was reluctant to say much, stating "Right now I can’t share anything... but in time, I'll be able to share and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come."

While fans wait for more news, Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson revealed that Clark Kent's cameo is meant to set up a future Black Adam vs. Superman film. However, he did add that the crossover film wouldn't happen anytime soon as they "have a lot more long-term storytelling to do before that historic DCU showdown and more new characters to establish [before the Black Adam/Superman fight]."

Black Adam is currently playing in theaters.
