Snyder had previously teased that Army of the Dead will be a radically different take on the zombie genre. "It is a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie, so it's genre-on-genre in a great way," he said. Star Garret Dillahunt also talked about the differences in the zombies' movement and praised Snyder's work as "refreshing."

Army of the Dead centers on a group of mercenaries who attempt to pull off a heist in zombie-infested Las Vegas before the government launches a nuclear strike on the city. Netflix is aiming to turn the film into a franchise, with an anime series and prequel film currently in development.

The official synopsis for Netflix's Army of the Dead reads:

Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

Directed and co-written by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film arrives May 21 on Netflix.
