Zack Snyder shared the first images from Army of Thieves, a prequel movie to his zombie action/horror thriller Army of the Dead.Among those featured in the photos are Matthias Schweighöfer, reprising his role as Ludwig Dieter from Army of the Dead. Other cast members include Game of Thrones and The Fast Saga's Nathalie Emmanuel, along with English comedian/actor Gus Khan, Jamestown's Stuart Martin and Polar costar Ruby O. Fee. In addition to the images, Snyder confirmed the film is "coming soon" to Netflix.RELATED: Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder Is Turning His 10-Year-Old Star Wars Pitch Into a Netflix Original

On top of reprising his role as the eccentric safe-cracker Dieter, Schweighöfer is directing Army of Thieves from a script by Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten, based on a story he and Snyder penned. The film is described as a heist movie set against the backdrop of the early stages of the zombie pandemic.

"We see [Dieter's] backstory and how he fell in love with and got obsessed with cracking safes. And why the safe in the movie is significant to him, which it is," said Snyder, describing Army of Thieves during a Q&A in April.

Snyder is also developing an anime prequel series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, with Dave Bautista, Ana de la Reguera, Ella Purnell and more reprising their roles from Army of the Dead in animated form. "[Lost Vegas] tells the story of where the zombies came from and what their deal is. It goes to Area 51 and does a whole a bunch of psychedelic craziness, which is cool," teased Snyder, adding, "Let's just say it scales in a way that's unexpected as far where the zombies come from."

While Army of Thieves is expected to function as a standalone story, Snyder previously hinted Lost Vegas could have major implications for the Army of the Dead sequel, should it come to pass. "When you see the animated series, you'll understand in some ways where the sequel will go," he explained.

Directed by Matthias Schweighöfer and written by Shay Hatten, Army of Thieves stars Schweighöfer along with Nathalie Emmanuel, Gus Khan, Stuart Martin and Ruby O. Fee. The Netflix film has yet to receive a release date.
