Original Script for Zack Snyder's Zombie Film Was Absolutely Vile

Zack Snyder No Three-Hour-Long Movies

Zack Snyder's films are frequently divisive because of their darker tone, but he appears to have dodged a bullet with Netflix's planned Army of the Dead, which reportedly won't include the most disturbing element of the original script.

Speaking with i09.com in 2011, then-director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. revealed there was an "extra dimension" to the zombie film, in that, "the male zombies rape human females. Yes. And they have human hybrid zombie offsprings. It's a new take on the zombie genre, which is crazy."

However, according to Den of Geek, that plot point has been scrubbed from the latest version of the script, with Snyder now attached to direct as well as produce.

The film is described as taking place "amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted." Snyder will produce with his wife Deborah through their newly-formed production company, Stone Quarry.

Army of the Dead is expected to begin filming this summer, based on a story by Snyder and a screenplay from Joby Harold, who recently wrote King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
