Sometimes in the game of life, a person just has to trust in the cards. At least, that's probably what Yugi from the massive gaming and anime franchise Yu-Gi-Oh! would say in the midst of a duel that could literally mean life or death for him and friends.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise has prospered with several anime series for fans to enjoy, featuring rivals that run a corporation, game battles on motorcycles, and the geometric cornucopia of neon colors that crown characters' heads as "hair." The series is currently continuing with 2020's release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, but fans are quick to go back to the series first hero: Yugi. Yugi is a beloved character with enough charm and memorable scenes to produce so many memes. It's almost as if his character in the series was specifically created for Reddit and Instagram.

10 2020 Plans Cancelled

It's a fact that for many, 2020 has been one of the most difficult years to endure. There's a global pandemic that has at its best as put nearly everything on hold, and at its worst has forever changed the world in ways folks haven't even begun to understand yet.

That's why this meme of Insector Haga throwing away Yugi's cards hit close to home. It's a feeling that mirrors positive plans at the beginning of the year people may have had, thrown away thanks to the world's harsh reality. Such is the card game of life.

9 What Time Is It?

There are so many identifiable qualities of Yugi Moto. From his gold and purple combo for his spiky hair to his belief in his deck, he's one of the most iconic anime protagonists in recent memory. He's also got a particular sense of time.

Yugi's "It's Time To D-D-D-Duel" catchphrase caught in the intro is probably remembered the most by fans. And thanks to this meme, fans will always be on time to do what's truly important. Someone should consider making an actual watch like this meme because buyers are ready.

8 True Console Wars

The world is nearly a month away from the next generation of consoles. Sony and Microsoft have done everything in their power to entice gamers for either the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. They've also deepened the fan rivalry between the two companies.

It's little surprise that social media will be imbued with game company pride via memes, so this comedic spin on the famous Kaiba Seto insult towards poor Yugi is a good way to start. Maybe the Xbox Series X/S is the underdog like Yugi.

7 Just Believe

Yugi wins the majority of his battles thanks to believing in the "Heart of the Cards." Besides being mentioned endlessly in the dub of the series, the concept behind it is that a mystic power helps Yugi draw the right card at the right time during a battle.

It sounds nice, like a hidden ability or last-ditch trick from the protagonist. But realistically, it's actually cheating. In a real card game tournament, this would be grounds to get thrown out. But in anime, the good guys don't cheat. Instead, they just mysteriously win.

6 A Good Clean Match

East truly meets West in this friendly handshake between King Of The Hill's Hank Hill and Yugi. There's no telling how this match would actually go down. Although fans would probably love to be a fly on the wall for that match.

Mr. Hill has to have a deck based on his love of steaks, his trusty dog Ladybird, and of course, good ole Arlen-based propane and propane accessories. Never mind, that the game wouldn't be all too clean. Yugi will eventually rely on the "Heart of the Cards" tactic to snipe the win.

5 Natural Evolution

Yu-Gi-Oh! shares a few similarities with the Pokemon series. For instance, both have managed to produce longstanding game series that have spun-off into successful anime series. They also detail a young protagonist who battles enemies and rivals through indirect means.

But maybe the two series could learn to pull from one another. For example, with this hairy meme, Yu-Gi-Oh! could use the concept of evolution, at least when it comes to the series' protagonist. The ultimate evolution looks way too overpowered, that's for sure. But it's only due to the hairy antics that Yugi started.

4 About To Bet It All

Life can be a series of minor and major panics. Having a house on fire is a cause for major panic. Being stuck in line at the bank while the parking meter is running is more of a minor panic. But the strange thing about minor panics is that they can feel like a big deal at the time.

For instance, that moment of realization of a potentially empty wallet or bank account after ordering food is the roughest 10 to 15 minutes ever known. No one wants a doubtful bet on a debit card because no amount of "believing in the heart" is gonna salvage things.

3 Time To R-R-R-Raid

The Area 51 Raid feels like it took place eons ago. The event sparked online last year and blossomed into a global event of people wanting to finally get into Area 51 and see just what the Government Base was truly hiding.

It was wild, as among the many promises that folks proposed on the raid was also a proposed Naruto Run. Too bad no one thought to dress as Yugi and duel the base guards. Nothing says true fear liking being defeated by Dark Magician.

2 Don't Want To Be Here

Comedian John Mulanely has an old bit about the joy of canceled social plans and being able to stay home as a result. It's a universal feeling because everyone has been to a boring gathering or event at least once in their life.

The feeling might be a little different now that nearly everyone was forced to turn into a homebody this year, but this meme of a pouting Yugi does scream how much he probably wishes he were home. The poor guy could be working on his deck for crying out loud.

1 Vending Machine Question

How well do fans really know their favorite characters? It's a question that's either brought up upon fan retrospection or during a trivia battle. But sometimes a fan does have to pose that question.

One of the funniest ways to answer that is by placing their favorites in everyday scenarios. And this meme seeks to do just that by asking what would the Yu-Gi-Oh! series protagonists do if a bag got stuck in the vending machine. For the most part, it seems spot on. Kudos to this meme for marking both versions of Yugi.
