In the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, it's fairly common to see certain groups of cards linked together by some common traits. On the surface, one of the first things that comes to mind are card archetypes. Under this category, these cards tend to work in conjunction with each other to support a certain playing style. However, there are certain stories that cards in this game share which transcend these archetypes. The stories themselves aren't even restricted by card archetypes, giving them a degree of complexity that relates to genuine storytelling. These stories give a glimpse into the world that these duel spirits inhabit, showing how these dueling spirits have their own adventures beyond what you might be familiar with just watching the anime or playing the game.

Gagagigo

This reptile with a tongue twister of a name starts his journey as Gigobyte. He hunted for food one day when he found himself in danger, where he was saved by Eria the Water Charmer. From there, Gigobyte serves Eria as she develops into a stronger spellcaster. During this period of growth and training Gigobyte evolved, turning into Jigabyte and later Gagagigo. Gagagigo continues to serve his respective Charmer until she unlocks her full potential, when all of the Charmer's familiars were freed.

Without Eria by his side, Gagagigo continues to hunt for food like he had done during his childhood. As he hunts for food he eventually comes into contact with Freed's army, who doesn't take too kindly to Gagagigo's food theft. It's then that Freed the Brave Wanderer fights against Gagagigo. On his own, he doesn't quite stand up to Gagagigo when comparing both of the card's attack points. However, Freed uses Dimensional Prison to send Gagagigo to a dark dimension. While this punishment is rather harsh for Gagagigo's thievery, it is this conflict that starts Gagagigo's descent into darkness and drives his intent for revenge. This one action drives his craze for power, losing himself until the day that he eventually faces redemption.

Inpachi

Inpachi Yu Gi Oh!

This card was once a part of the field known as Forest, but after being cut down a tree becomes possessed by a wicked spirit. Giving birth to Inpachi, this monster attacks everyone that comes its way. Its rampage is stopped when Marauding Captain, a part of Freed's group that Gagagigo would later steal from, chops up the Inpachi. While defeated, Inpachi revived and sought revenge on Marauding Captain. Its desire is so strong that it goes up in flames, turning into the Blazing Inpachi which possessed a lot more attack then its previous form.

Eventually, Blazing Inpachi encounters Gagagigo and the Marauding Captain. It tries to fight against them, but when the two of them work together they overwhelm it. After its defeat the Blazing Inpachi turns into Charcoal Inpachi, a husk of its former self. While the Inpachi later encounters Gagagigo in an empowered but twisted state as Gogiga Gagagigo, it gets defeated by this reptile even easier than before. The mad scientist Kozaky, who also created Gogiga Gagagigo, finds Inpachi's corpse and later develops it into Woodborg Inpachi.

Goblin Of Greed

Contrasting the afforementioned epic is the story of Goblin Of Greed. The Goblin Of Greed was once a wealthy goblin that looked down on those who were beneath his status. One day, he loses all of his riches due to an unfortunate accident. It's from this point that the Goblin Of Greed proceeds to take many paths in his efforts to regain his former wealth.

The Goblin Of Greed took multiple different paths in his objective to get rich. First, he becomes the Scrounging Goblin as he begs for money from others. This process doesn't work in the way that he intends, and so the goblin proceeds to follow other methods. The goblin participates in jobs such as housekeeping and mowing lawns. All of these attempts at gaining money were never enough for the Goblin Of Greed to make his dream come true. However, he doesn't have any qualms about performing crime such as theft as long as he can make a profit.

D.D. Warrior Lady

D.D Warrior Yu Gi Oh

D.D. Warrior Lady, while not being the strongest in the game, developed from her various experiences into a strong warrior. Starting life as an outlaw, she eventually came to work under Freed's army. While fighting against foes on his behalf, she became rivals with someone called Warrior Dai Grepher. Although the two of them engaged in combat, the result of their battle was inconclusive. During one of their fights she was abducted, being taken away to a different dimension while Grepher was left behind.

In the time that D.D. Warrior Lady spent in this alternate dimension, she trained under the guidance of a new employer. She gains additional comrades during this training, and when the time was right she exited this dimension to come back. After her return she ends up fighting Grepher multiple times, using her newly-acquired talents to defeat him.

Overall, these stories help to add an extra layer of lore for the card game. While it's nice to use powerful cards and exciting to pull off combos in decks, the thought that these cards have this extra attention to detail gives each card more value. As cards continue to get developed in the future, the tales of many individuals are sure to become even more intriguing.
