People who have ever watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime know that it's filled with rampant cheating and complete disregard of the rules. Season 1, in particular, is just a mess as they seemed to be making things up as they go. In fact, everyone knows Pegasus is cheating when they go against him, and they just go along with it for whatever reason.

While everyone is guilty of shenanigans on the show, only Seto Kaiba got to turn it into a meme thanks to Yu-Gi-Oh! abridged. His "screw the rules, I have money" mindset is so apt for his character as Kaiba routinely follows it in the show. It's even done in ways beyond just playing cards as well, some of his card throwing feats being beyond belief.

10 Summoning The Blue-Eyes

It's an issue that's rampant in the first season of Yu Gi Oh!, but so many characters summon ultra-powerful monsters without having to sacrifice anything at all. While others were just as guilty, none were as bad as Kaiba, who would routinely summon his beloved Blue-Eyes White Dragon without sacrificing anything. It made some cool moments in the show, and admittedly, rules weren't firmly made for the game by this time in its lifespan.

9 Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon Inconsistencies

The way this entire dragon is handled in the anime doesn't make a whole lot of sense. A big reason for that is the inconsistency in how it operates. Bakura says Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon is supposed to have three separate attacks and essentially be three different monsters despite being a single fusion monster. That alone is very confusing. To add to the confusion, it is treated very differently against Yugi, though that whole fight is full of questionable Season 1 shenanigans.

8 Threatening To Kill Himself

In terms of cheating, this may be the worst of the bunch. No matter how much of a rivalry someone has with another person, they shouldn't use death as their means of scoring a victory. In Kaiba's case, he threatened to step off the edge of a castle in the middle of his duel with Yugi, thinking it'd help save his little brother, Mokuba.

Then again, this is the same guy who kidnapped Yugi's grandpa, so morals and sense aren't something Kaiba has an abundance of. What makes it sadder, though, is that it not only worked, but it also was the only instance where Kaiba ever got a victory against his rival.

7 Jamming A Gun

Kaiba Attacking

Kaiba's ability to screw the rules goes far beyond simply cheating during a children's card game. In fact, he can defy all realms of reason. To save his brother Mokuba, he sneaks onto Pegasus' island and eventually gets confronted by one of his henchmen, Kemo. Kemo holds him at gunpoint, only for Kaiba to jam the gun by using the Gyakutenno Megami card. Amongst all the silly and outrageous moments that happen in this series, that one is always near the top.

6 Master Card Thrower

Jamming guns isn't the only obscure trick that Kaiba can do with his cards. He also managed to save Tea from dying during their duel at the Domino Pier by throwing a card at the rare hunter operating the crane hovering over Tea's head. The card strikes the hunter in the hand, causing him to drop the controls of the lift. Not only does this scene screw with the laws of psychics, but it also makes little sense that a card would even pack enough punch to knock something out of someone's hands.

5 Counting Is For Losers

This is one of those rare times where screwing the rules didn't work out so well for Kaiba. During the movie, Yu-Gi-Oh: The Pyramid Of Light, Kaiba sought to defeat the Pharoah once and for all.

During the battle, he summons the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, a card that would let him boost its attack based on how many dragons were in his graveyard. Unfortunately for the super genius, he couldn't count properly and thus snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

4 Letting Rare Hunters Use Fake Cards

While Kaiba was hosting a tournament in hopes of gaining the three Egyptian God Cards, he noticed that one of the Rare Hunters was using fake cards in his duel with Yugi. Rather than disqualifying him as he should have, he allowed the duel to continue in order to learn more about the hunters. It's one of those rare cases of cheating that made complete sense. Considering what Kaiba's goal was, he needed to get as much knowledge on his foes as he could.

3 Using Fang Of Critias

Fang Of Critias Yugioh Card

No one can debate that Yu-Gi-Oh! has ever made a whole lot of sense as an anime, having multiple characters cheating and rarely ever having fair duels. As the mystical portion of the series began to ramp up with Marik's arrival, the rules were disregarded even further. The Fang of Critias magically appearing in Kaiba's deck after his consciousness went on a vision quest is proof of that. While he didn't intentionally cheat, he still willingly played a card he didn't start with.

2 Hacking The System

This is one of those cases of blatant cheating that didn't result in Kaiba winning a duel. During Pegasus's arc, one of his Eliminators is Ghost Kaiba, the "evil" part of Kaiba's soul that had been banished to the shadow realm. Pegasus helped give him a physical form in the show, and by all accounts, he should have done what real Kaiba couldn't do-- defeat Yugi. Instead, Kaiba hacks the system and manually lowers the stats of his Blue Eyes, and everyone including Pegasus seems completely cool with it.

1 Using Obelisk

This has less to do with Kaiba cheating and more to do with how broken the Egyptian God Cards were. Not only were they the strongest in the game, but the normal rules also didn't seem to apply to them. This made them perfect for a character like Kaiba. When Kaiba first gave the card a whirl, it managed to punch right through Mirror Force and attacked his opponent directly. The reasoning behind it is that it's an Egyptian God Card, and they can do whatever they want in the show.
