The crew behind the YouTube channel Make It Real have made a name for themselves by taking things from movies and video games and making actual working prototypes.

From Batman’s grappling gun to James Bond’s gadget car, they’ve done so much but they thought they could improve upon their most recent project: a functioning Star Wars lightsaber.

As explained while actually holding a working prototype, the Hacksmith says that the initial blade design wasn’t as durable as they had hoped, so they wanted to come up with a design that was hotter, stronger and better able to slice through objects.

After spending large amounts of time and money, they were able to finally able to complete their third prototype, which includes a titanium blade with a tungsten tip. After a recapping their failed attempts, the makers show off their current prototype and go through the process they went through to bring their vision to life.

To their credit, every step is thoroughly explored and explained and they make the entire complex  procedure look like the easiest thing in the world, which it almost certainly isn't.

When they finally turn the lightsaber on, it looks absolutely amazing as it's blade puts out a staggering amount of heat. After they test their creation on a Styrofoam mannequin head, the terrifying reality of their creation really sets in. The red hot blade actually burns a hole through the head before slicing it cleanly in half.

After seeing the kind of damage that lightsaber does in real life, you can understand why the people of the Star Wars universe hold the warriors of the Sith Lords and the Jedi Knights in such high regard. Although the glowing orange blade doesn't represent their absolute final prototype, it doesn't make the channel's accomplishment any less exciting for any one who ever dreamed of wielding a lightsaber.
