As a character that has lived for millennia through the history of the Marvel Universe thanks to his Asgardian heritage, Thor has a recorded history that stretches back to the time of the Vikings in Medieval Europe. Even before being deemed worthy enough to wield the mythical hammer Mjolnir, Thor had several adventures across the Marvel Universe, where he crossed paths with several familiar characters.

Now, CBR is taking a look back at the adventures of Young Thor and his past on Earth and Asgard including some epic clashes for the Son of Asgard

THOR: SON OF ASGARD

Thor Son of Asgard in Marvel Comics

Thor is the product of an illicit relationship between Odin, the Asgardian All-Father, and Gaia, an Elder Goddess bonded to the Earth itself to create a god who was linked to Asgard and Earth. The true nature of Thor's parentage had been kept from him for millennia, and he originally believed himself to be the son of Odin and the Asgardian All-Mother Frigga until Frigga revealed the truth to him during the 20th century.

As a child, Thor grew up alongside his brother Loki, the biological son of Frost Giant ruler Laufey who was secretly adopted by Odin after the Frost Giants' defeat. On Asgard, Loki would grow up to resent Thor, constantly in the shadow of the Asgardian Prince's superior physical prowess and achievements even at a relatively young age.

THOR COMES TO EARTH

As a teenager, Loki would constantly use his spells and enchantments to impede Thor and the Warriors Three from succeeding in tasks given to them by Odin, including a memorable quest to obtain components to forge a mythical blade for Balder. Loki's plot backfires, endangering all of Asgard to the Norn Queen Karnilla forcing Thor and Balder to drive her back. A later team-up between Loki and the Enchantress has the teenage Sif accidentally aid the sorceress in enchanting Thor to love her until Valkyrie breaks the spell leading to the beginning of Thor's relationship with Sif instead.

Thor first actively began visiting Earth during its Viking Age, around the 9th century as the Scandinavian Norsemen began to explore and raid the rest of Europe. While unworthy to wield Mjolnir, which was crafted by Odin for his son in the heart of a dying star and resided in Asgard's armory waiting for him, the younger Thor instead would rely on the mythical battle axe Jarnbjorn. Forged by the dwarves, Jarnbjorn could cut through most targets and was largely indestructible as Thor used it to fight Frost Giants and other monsters during their incursions on Earth.

YOUNG THOR'S EPIC BATTLES

During the 11th century, the Celestials empower the mutant Apocalypse with additional powers and an unbreakable armor, and the villain turns his plans for conquest beyond his native Egypt. Initially defeated by Apocalypse in their first skirmish, Thor used his own blood to further augment Jarnbjorn's power with an enchantment and subsequently drive the Celestial-upgraded villain away.

The young Thor would later find himself face-to-face with his counterparts from the relative present and far future of the Marvel Universe, recruiting him to join them in epic threats to the realm. The first such team-up came against Gorr the God Butcher, with the young Thor encouraged to know he would one day be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir.

The second encounter came during War of the Realms as the two older Thors recruited their past self to fight the symbiote-empowered Malekith where the young Thor would wield Mjolnir for the first time, briefly using the future Thor's hammer to turn the tide of battle.
