The following article contains spoilers for Avengers #64, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel's Avengers #64 sees a younger version of Thanos recieve a massive symbiote upgrade.

Avengers #64 comes from Jason Aaron, Javier Garrón, color artist David Curiel and letterer VC's Cory Petit. In the current Avengers storyline, Doom Supreme has gathered together the Multiversal Masters of Evil, a group of deadly villains from different realities, to attack Earth's Mightiest Heroes who hail from both present-day Earth-616 and the prehistoric past.

Along with Doom Supreme, The Multiversal Masters of Evil's roster includes King Killmonger, Black Skull, Dark Phoenix and Young Thanos. Black Skull, a character created by Aaron and EdMcGuiness who first appeared in 2021's Heroes Reborn #1, hails from Earth-TRN852. While he's a variant of Johann Shmidt/Earth-616's Red Skull, the character bonded with the Venom symbiote on his world.

Thanos' Younger Self Gets a Scary Symbiote Upgrade

Black Skull meets a swift defeat when battling the Avenger shortly after Captain America/Steve Rogers punches him in the face with his shield. Steve, Nighthawk and Moon Knight 1,000,000 BC quickly try to pin the villain down; however, the symbiote separates itself from Black Skull and then bonds with Young Thanos. "Schmidt was always weak," the childish version of the Mad Titan sneers. "And far too petty. Only caring about exterminating one race or another. A weapon this grand deserves someone who will wield it to its fully indiscriminate potential. Someone...who wants everyone to die."

The Avengers Find a Way to Defeat Young Thanos' New Symbiote Form

While Young Thanos' symbiote upgrade allows him to initially crush his foes, Earth's Mightiest Heroes make a quick comeback when Thor and Odin trap the Venom symbiote underneath their Mjolnirs. Echo, meanwhile, is battling Dark Phoenix and emits a fire blast nearby which then burns the symbiote off of Thanos, effectively defeating the villain. Nighthawk later points out that, while the Mjolnirs managed to keep the Venom symbiote trap, Young Thanos managed to slip away when nobody was looking.
