The following contains spoilers for Young Sheldon Season 6, Episode 5, "A Tougher Nut and a Note on File," which debuted Thursday, Nov. 10 on CBS.

Young Sheldon Season 6 has made very little progress fixing any of the Cooper family drama. George and Mary made up for an episode or two, but they're back to being distant to explain George's affair with Brenda. Missy has a job at the comic book store that's infuriated Sheldon. Meanwhile, Meemaw has expanded her gambling enterprise to the back room of the video store. Yet none of this has actually moved any of the characters forward.

Georgie and Mandy's relationship or lack thereof is the only thing with apparent forward momentum. Their storyline is setting up the series' biggest tragedy. Season 6, Episode 5, "A Tougher Nut and a Note on File" took the next step on that path by connecting Georgie's character to his The Big Bang Theory counterpart.

Georgie Owned Dr. Tire on The Big Bang Theory

TBBT Georgie

Although The Big Bang Theory referenced Sheldon's family often, it rarely showed them in person. Georgie (played by Jerry O'Connell) didn't appear until the very end of Season 11. Sheldon was planning his wedding and his mother wouldn't come unless Sheldon also invited Georgie -- so Sheldon tried to reconcile with his brother after a 10-year feud.

In Season 11, Episode 23, "The Sibling Realignment" viewers learned that Georgie was the founder and owner of a chain of tire stores called Dr. Tire. He had become a successful self-made businessman. Young Sheldon Season 2 included Georgie (portrayed by Montana Jordan) working with Herschel Sparks at his garage. Season 2, Episode 8, "An 8-Bit Princess and a Flat Tire Genius" proved that Georgie was a tire expert -- and Season 6 built on that idea.

Mandy's Parents Own a Tire Store on Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon Mandy's Parents

In "A Tougher Nut and a Note on File," Mandy's parents cut her off completely -- and things became even more awkward when she and Georgie ran into them at a restaurant. She introduced them as Audrey and Jim (guest stars Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso), but it wasn't a fun meeting. Audrey wanted nothing to do with her daughter and she made sure that her husband didn't talk to Mandy either. That left Georgie looking for a way to help Mandy, as he's done throughout Season 6.

Later in the episode, Georgie had one of his trademark genius ideas. He found out that Jim owned a tire store and tried to talk to him -- but Audrey was also there, so it didn't end well. Mandy didn't like Georgie talking to her parents behind her back, either. However, this scene gave Georgie a clear in to the tire business. Should he end up working for Jim, that would give him his start professionally and draw a direct line between Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory. It would also create more progress that Season 6 needs.

New episodes of Young Sheldon air Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
