The trailer for Young Justice: Phantoms has been released.

Shown during DC FanDome, the trailer returns fans to the animated world of their favorite DC heroes and their young proteges. While heroes like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman exist in this universe, the series primarily focuses on their younger counterparts, including the likes of Superboy, Nightwing, Miss Martian, Kid Flash and more. The trailer gives fans a glimpse of familiar faces returning, new introductions, romance, action and a good amount of bloody violence as well.

It has been a little over two years since the show's previous season, Young Justice: Outsiders, concluded in July of 2019. Of course, a two-year wait is nothing compared to the gap between its second and third season. The series first began in 2010 on Cartoon Network, airing two seasons before it was cancelled after its second season ended in 2013, later being saved on DC Universe, before it moved over to HBO Max.

At the forefront of the trailer is Miss Martian, Superboy and Beast Boy, characters who share some of the closest relationships in the series. After a blood transfusion from Miss Martian, Beast Boy and her have treated each other as siblings ever since, with Beast Boy taking on a prominent role in Outsiders by leading a new team of publicly-known, young heroes to inspire the world, separate from the Justice League or the show's primary team. Meanwhile, Superboy proposed to Miss Martian last season, the two seen sharing a passionate kiss in the trailer.

Also featured heavily in the trailer is Artemis, who has operated under the codename Tigress since Season 2, following the death of her love interest, Wally West AKA Kid Flash. A quick shot is shown of the Season 1 Young Justice team, Wally included, showing Artemis in tears and highlighting that she is still coping with his loss. However, the trailer also shows more of her sister Cheshire, featuring a flashback of the two as children and training under their father, Sportsmaster.

Some characters are absent from the trailer entirely, such as Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing. While Nightwing is not seen in the trailer, he can be seen on promotional material for the new season, featuring a new suit design with more blue on his sleeves. Also seen on the promotional material are the aged-up versions of the Season 1 team, including members like Aqualad (now Aquaman) and Rocket.

Of course, much more is shown in the trailer. Superboy can be seen pummeling someone or something with blood splattering on his face and fists, Will Harper fights off agents of the League of Assassins in his Bowhunter Security uniform, along with plenty other action. The biggest fight seen in the trailer revolves around a mystic battle within a jewelry store, Zatanna and other magical heroes facing off against Klarion the Witch Boy. The trailer concludes with a character seemingly plucked out of the pages of Gotham Academy, wearing a similar uniform and standing in the same jewelry store setting.

The fourth season of the series, Young Justice: Phantoms, is available to start streaming now on HBO Max.
