Cartoon Network confirmed this afternoon that Young Justice will make its series premiere Friday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
Announced in April, the animated series boasts a team roster that differs significantly from the DC comic on which it's based: Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Superboy (a newly “born” Conner Kent), Miss Martian, Artemis and team leader Aqualad (Jackson Hyde, not Garth). As established in the show's pilot, the Young Justice team will serve as a covert-operations team for the high-profile Justice League, training with Black Canary between missions assigned to them by Batman. Here's the official synopsis, courtesy of Cartoon Network:
In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over -- to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you're not just a normal teenager? What if you're a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets? Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you're worthy of the Justice League? That's exactly what the members of Young Justice - Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis -- will found out ... whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero.
The one-hour pilot that aired on Nov. 26 attracted more than 2.5 million viewers, ranking No. 1 in its time period among boys ages 9 to 14 and male teens ages 12 to 17.
