Young Justice: Outsiders is set to debut on DC Universe this winter, and now DC has announced that a prequel comic for the series is also in the works.

Written by Greg Weisman and drawn by Christopher Jones, the creative team behind the Young Justice comic during the show's original tenure, the digital series will cover the time jump between Invasion and Outsiders. Weisman serves as producer and writer on the series, and was key in generating support on social media from fans who wanted the series to return for a third season. The comic will release next year and is currently a DC Universe digital-only exclusive, with no announced plans for a physical release.

Outsiders takes place some time after the events of Invasion, with Nightwing recruiting Superboy, Artemis, and Black Lightning to help him bring down a metahuman trafficking ring. At the same time, the Team of young adult superheroes is dealing with both newly emerging metahumans and incoming threats from the New Gods and Apokalips. Along with returning cast members from the first two seasons such as Superboy, Aqualad and Artemis, Outsiders will introduce new characters such as Halo, Metamorpho, Geo-Force and Katana.
