DC Universe has released a new teaser announcing the premiere date for Young Justice: Outsiders, the long-awaited third season of the fan-favorite animated series: Jan. 4, 2019.
The 26-second video depicts a twirling helix in the foreground, and shifts from an image of Earth to one of Apokolips, the hellish planet ruled by the DC villain Darkseid.
Young Justice: Outsiders was previously tipped for an early-January premiere by DC Universe's calendar of original series, which also indicated that the season will be split in two, with the second half debuting in June 2019.
The third season of Young Justice centers on the team of heroes battling metahuman trafficking following the events of Season 2, in which the alien Reach revealed the existence of the metagene. Now there's a veritable superhuman arms race being waged around the globe.
The first trailer for Young Justice: Outsiders was released in July at Comic-Con International, revealing returning favorites -- Nightwing, Artemis and Superboy, among them -- while introducing new faces, including the Outsiders of the title.
Young Justice originally aired for two seasons, from 2011 to 2013, on Cartoon Network before ending with the epic “Invasion” storyline. After years of lobbying by fans and creators alike, Warner Bros. Animation finally announced in 2017 that the series would return for a third season. However, instead of Cartoon Network, Young Justice found a new home on the DC Universe streaming service.
