WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Young Justice: Outsiders, streaming now on DC Universe.

Young Justice: Outsiders has put Cyborg through the emotional and physical wringer. Not only did Victor Stone have to contend with his father fusing him to a Father Box following an accident, he has faced serious mental issues as the "living computer" nearly possessed him and transformed him into a killer.

Despite those obstacles, Vic has been upgraded as well, and in the wake of an exorcism, of sorts, that purged the evil from his system, he is finally more man than machine. Luckily, for Vic and his teammates, the series offers Cyborg his final upgrade -- and it may well be his most important one yet.

Following Superboy & Co. using Metron's chair to basically turn Vic into a New God, he's been able to open Boom Tubes of his own, and communicate with, and shut down, Apokoliptian technology. But Vic is more than a technopath; he's data itself. And when the Outsiders try to find Granny Goodness, we see just how amazing he's become.

Vic can intercept calls, texts and online messages without anyone knowing, which leads to them tracking Granny for one last raid. His friends are weirded out, because that invasion of privacy meant that he did peered into their personal lives, although it was inadvertent, because he couldn't control being the "actual data highway." Now, however, Vic can filter out and control his scanning, and seeing as he's more or less the internet, it dawns on him that this is his final evolution. He already possesses a vast array of weapons, but this upgrade makes him the perfect spy.

That evolution allows Vic to find Granny and then go after Overlord, her artificial intelligence in the Ghost Dimension that runs the X-Pit and reconditions people to submit to the Anti-Life Equation. Overlord battles Vic, but the young hero realizes he's now the Grid, and co-opts the digital construct in which they're fighting, similar to how Neo began to control the Matrix. Vic controls the Apokoliptian techology, even surviving digital death when his avatar, or essence, is stabbed by Overlord inside. In true Tron fashion, he shuts down Overlord by taking over this realm.

Vic decides the best nickname for him is Cyborg, as the entire digital space of the cosmos belongs to him. It doesn't matter if it's alien in origin, any and all mainframes belong to him. He's become such a powerhouse with his upgrade, Metron pulls in Vic and Halo for one more conversation, in which he calls them his "grandchildren."

The New God acknowledges they're crucial to protecting the fabric of the galaxy, as well as its future -- that is, if Darkseid doesn't kill them. To Metron, they're extensions of his Box technology, and Vic has New God tech in his system. Because Halo is a living, breathing Mother Box, Metron knows he has allies if he needs them. But as it stands, Vic may well be the most valuable asset for now, because the Grid makes him just as much a cerebral threat as he is an instrument of mass destruction. However, despite his newfound power, he won't be partnering with Metron anytime soon, because after his induction into the Outsiders, Cyborg will have a lot of work to do to help stop the revamped Light and Darkseid's crusade.
