Young Justice co-creator Greg Weisman is hoping fans will continue to show their support and rally together to help get the popular DC animated series renewed at HBO Max.

Weisman recently shared on his personal Twitter account that Young Justice: Targets #2, by himself and Christopher Jones, was now available for purchase. He finished his post by urging fans to "Buy a copy to help us #SaveEarth16!" The hashtag, which refers to the universe Young Justice takes place in, has been widely shared across social media platforms following a report that HBO Max had no plans of renewing the animated series for a fifth season. Young Justice: Targets is a limited digital-first comic book series that takes place after the Young Justice Season 4 finale.

Young Justice originally aired on Cartoon Network for its first two seasons before it was canceled in 2013. In November 2016, Warner Bros. Animation announced Young Justice would return for a third season, which premiered on the newly created streaming service DC Universe in January 2019. Amid DC Universe's shuttering, the show moved to HBO Max for its fourth season, Phantoms. The first half of the season was released on the streaming service in late 2021, and the second half began streaming in March 2022. The final installment of the 26-episode fourth season hit HBO Max on June 9.

HBO Max Is Removing Its Animated Content

The hashtag #SaveEarth16 has shown that Young Justice has a passionate fanbase, but that might not be enough to keep the series from being canceled. Warner Bros. Discovery is in the midst of a corporate restructuring that has led to mass amounts of content being purged from HBO Max, including the removal of 36 animated series like Infinity Train. The streaming service has also canceled several highly anticipated animated projects such as Batman: Caped Crusader and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie. HBO Max is reportedly parting ways with scripted animated content meaning Young Justice fans will need to make their voices loud and clear if they hope to convince WBD to give the DC animated series another season.

Young Justice originally followed the lives and exploits of "the team," a group of young heroes including Dick Grayson/Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Superboy, Red Arrow, Miss Martian, and Artemis. The series has now grown to encompass the wider DC Universe and has introduced several other fictional teams like the Outsiders and the Sentinels of Magic school. All four seasons of Young Justice have received critical acclaim from critics and fans. On the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, the show's average Tomatometer is at 95% fresh while the average audience score is 79% fresh.

Fans can currently stream the entirety of Young Justice on HBO Max.
