The 2021 reboot of Shaman King is directed by Joji Furuta (Visual Prison) with series composition by Shouji Yonemura (One Piece 2013 — present, Death Note, Fairy Tail). The animation is produced by studio Bridge, best known for their work on The Royal Tutor, Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, and the second half of Fairy Tail.

Originally published as a manga from 1998 to 2004, Shaman King saw a 2001 anime produced by studio Xebec (Negima! Magister Negi Magi, To Love Ru, BanG Dream!). In 2017, Hiroyuki Takei, the original creator of the series, announced that he had turned down the opportunity to make a reboot of the series when it appeared that the original voice cast would not be returning. In June 2020, the series was officially green-lit for a reboot, with many of the 2001 anime voice talent reprising their roles; voice actress and singer Megumi Hayashibara also returned to perform the opening and ending songs.

Since the end of the manga in 2011, the licensing rights to publish the series in English have switched from Viz Media to Kondansha, with the new publisher releasing Shaman King as a "complete" 35-book series, both digitally and in print. The series has been a commercial success domestically and around the globe, with 38 million copies of the manga in circulation as of March 2021. Shaman King even managed to reach the New York Times bestseller list for manga in 2009 with the release of its 24th volume.

Shaman King finished airing in Japan in April, and has already announced a sequel series. The new anime will be based on Takei's 2012 sequel manga Shaman King: Flowers, and will focus on Hana Asakura, the son of Shaman King's Yoh and Anna. Additional details about the new series, including its cast, crew, and premiere date, have not been revealed yet.

Shaman King season 1, part 4, will release on Netflix on May 23.
