Yellowstone is nothing if not a showcase for cowboy culture and antics, and no character embodies that persona more than Rip. Brought to life by Cole Hauser, the rough and stoic foreman of the Yellowstone ranch has become a fan-favorite over the years. His loyalty to the ranch and strong relationship with Beth Dutton makes him endearing, but his tough exterior and iron fist on the bunkhouse show that he's not to be trifled with. However, Rip's good life has left viewers worried about what's in store for him in the upcoming Season 5 since Yellowstone isn't known for leaving its characters happy for too long.

Ahead of Yellowstone's Season 5 premiere, Cole Hauser spoke with CBR about returning to Rip. He dove into what, if anything, is different for the cowboy this time around and his power-couple relationship with Beth. Hauser also promised viewers more of the tough cowboy they've come to love.

CBR: Rip seems a little worried about the ranch this season. How did he handle John's run for governor and what that means for the future of the Yellowstone?

Cole Hauser: I wouldn't necessarily say he's worried. It's more of -- it's just new for him. It's new to have people on the ranch, new to kind of explore the idea that he's, meaning John, he's not around. There's a lot of responsibility put on Rip this year to be the foreman. What's great is that Taylor [Sheridan] wrote it in a way where Kevin [Costner] does show up throughout the season and give him little diamonds along the way.

So some changes, but still some familiarity there.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, in addition to John's absences, we assume that Beth's been gone, too, as part of that campaign. So how is Rip adjusting to Beth being gone? How's their relationship?

I mean, it's strong. This year, they have a wonderful kind of growth, and also, there's some wonderful flashbacks to understand kind of the past and what got them to where they are as this really kind of power couple.

I like that description as the power couple. I think they really are.

Yeah, I mean, I think there's a great kind of yin and yang to them both, and that's why they're wonderful together. I mean, she's, obviously, a really smart, intelligent, brilliant woman, and then you have Rip, who knows how to run a ranch and really understands nature and cows. So if you put them, smash them together, it's -- as far as the Western frontier is concerned -- it's a pretty cool couple.

Yellowstone S5 Beth Rip

100%. So there are a couple of new cast members this season, too. Do they change things up for Rip at all this season? Does he get to interact with any of them?

Not really, no.

It's the same old ranch hands that he's been working with?

Yeah, it's more of the bunkhouse. Like I said, there's great scenes with John and I, and also, Kelly [Reilly], and there's some pretty cool cowboy stuff this year. So I'm excited for people that love cowboying and cutting and cows and branding. I mean, there's some wonderful stuff this year that Taylor wrote.

Did you get to do any special training or prep going into that for the season?

I'm always prepping, honey, always prepping. I mean, I ride every day when I can.

But no brand-new skills or anything that you get to show off?

I mean, you'll see.

We'll keep our eyes peeled. Anything you can tease for Rip this season?

It's more of the same -- bad motherfucker.

Yellowstone returns to television with Season 5 on Nov. 13 at 8 pm ET/PT on Paramount Network.
