One of the most engaging aspects of Yellowjackets has been Taissa's duality. In Season 1, the younger version (played by Scream VI's Jasmine Savoy Brown) seemed to be more of a hero. She was intent on protecting the girls when they crashed in the Canadian wilderness in the 1990s, and she helped an older Shauna when a blackmailer targeted them.

However, the older Taissa (played by Tawny Cypress) cut a more menacing figure decades later as a politician. Despite initially drawing sympathy from the audience, the race for state senator teased Taissa had a lot more skeletons in her closet. With Season 2 of Yellowjackets kicking off, there's a good chance Taissa's dark side might end up leading to a heartbreaking crime.

Yellowjackets' Taissa May Kill Simone

Yellowjacket's Taissa smiles in victory after the state senate race.

Simone (Taissa's wife) found Taissa's secret chamber at the end of Season 1, with Sammy's (their son) doll, the head of their dog, and a heart. It was used for some occult ritual in their home, with the shot juxtaposed with Taissa slyly smiling as she was announced as the election winner. It hinted Taissa did indeed work a deal with the same cult that orchestrated Travis' death and kidnapped Natalie.

Now that Simone has found the room, Taissa may have to cover her tracks by killing her wife. She already admitted to Shauna she's not in love with Simone anymore. Additionally, since Simone knows Taissa has been sleepwalking and committing acts that her conscious state isn't even aware of, such as trying to frame her opponent, Taissa can't risk it. Anyone jeopardizing her new position will have to go. And, Simone does have some insight into Taissa's past and the trauma inflicted when the girls had to kill and survive as cannibals in the forest after their Yellowjackets soccer team got stranded.

Granted, Simone doesn't know the full picture, but Taissa is clearly the kind of person willing to work shady deals to protect her empire. Even if she doesn't want to get her hands dirty, she has the cult there to act for her. Season 2 trailers already teased these agents will be helping the leader and Lottie to protect their existence. It hints Simone will be a loose end they can't afford, confirming Taissa will face something worse than cannibalism with this betrayal of someone once considered her soulmate and family.

Yellowjackets' Taissa Has a Replacement in Vanessa

Laurne Ambrose as Vanessa Van Palmer in Season 2 of Showtime's Yellowjackets.

Simone being removed is very feasible because Season 2 has Vanessa (Taissa's beloved from the woods) coming back. Played by Servant's Lauren Ambrose, Van is backing Lottie -- something hinted at when she joined Lottie for prayers to some dark god in the wilderness to end the Season 1 flashbacks. The idea of Van being around again may well be what pulls Taissa even more to them.

Taissa did sacrifice a lot to help heal Van after a wolf attack, and since Van believes Lottie's some kind of messiah, it's easy to envision Van corrupting Taissa in full. It'd give Taissa the love she and Van always wanted, ensure there's a family for Sammy, and reinforce why Taissa is partaking in the cult now. She's simply searching for that elusive paradise, and Van getting a second chance could be construed as proof that maybe Lottie's way is the way. Ultimately, Van's appearance doesn't augur well for Simone, and while it'd be harsh seeing Taissa make a full heel turn, it'd fit how loyal she was to Van, who's now devoted to Lottie, who thinks their cult is made for a higher calling.

The first episode of Yellowjackets Season 2 is now streaming on Showtime Anytime.
