The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 2, Episode 2, "Edible Complex" which aired Sunday, March 31 on Showtime.

Yellowjackets Season 2 continues to unravel the story of plane crash survivors in the past, as well as a select few in the present, picking up where "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" left off. In the present timeline, Callie is struggling as a result of finding Adam's charred license in her parent's barbeque. She breaks up with her boyfriend and Shauna attempts to bond with her daughter who continues to push her away. Taissa is also struggling -- she is alone without her son or wife and consuming obscene amounts of coffee in an attempt to stay awake and prevent herself from falling into her altered state. It doesn't entirely work, as her mirror reflection watches her in an eerie fashion.

Natalie learns more about Lottie's situation as she denies her community is a cult. Lottie explains she was worried about Natalie in the aftermath of Travis' death, and it was Natalie's attempted suicide that forced the community members to break in and take her away in that fashion. While Lottie and Natalie reconnect, Misty continues her search for Natalie without help from Taissa and Shauna. Instead, she gets help from the Citizen Detective poster she has been feuding with, who offers his assistance in exchange for support in his Adam theories.

Adult Lottie talking to her cult followers in Yellowjackets

At work, Misty comes face to face with the Citizen Detective (Elijah Wood) she previously spoke to only online. He left her a note on top of her lunch. The note is written in invisible ink which she reads when she gets him. He invites her to investigate a man who may have been a witness to Natalie's disappearance.

Lottie finally reveals to Natalie what happened the night Travis died. Travis told her that he wanted to confront the darkness by getting as close to death as he can just like the girl's did out in the woods. Lottie attempted to calm him down, and offered to call Natalie, but Travis said that would only make things worse. After Lottie fell asleep, he wrote the note that Natalie found evidence of in Season 1, left his bank information, and drove out to the barn.

Lottie found Travis with a noose around his neck, setup to a mechanized crane. He didn't attempt to die, but just get close to death to confront the darkness. However, the machine doesn't work to release him, and he is strangled to death in a terrible accident. At the moment of his death, Lottie sees a vision of BLONDE similar to how she experienced visions while in the woods. Natalie lashes out against Lottie and vows to destroy her. Lottie convinces her to stay the night.

Yellowjackets player Shauna stands in the snow next to Lottie and Tai

In the flashback timeline Shauna confronts the fact she ate Jackie's ear at the same time she is confronted with the fact that the group's supply of bear meat is running low, and they are all close to starvation. Shauna braids Jackie's hair, and applies her makeup in an effort to cover up Jackie's missing ear, but it's all part of her delusional, guilt riddled emotion regarding her friendship with Jackie. Lottie won't let the other girls interfere with Shauna's grieving process in the meat shed.

In the cabin, tensions are running high as they discover one of the survivors has misused their waste bucket. Taissa empties the bucket, but not without exposing further tension among the group. That night, Van wakes up to discover Taissa has disappeared, she's sleepwalking again and Van finds her out in the cold, winter night wandering without shoes. In her altered state, she follows the Man with No Eyes to the edge of a cliff near a tree with the mysterious symbol carved into the bark. Van wants Taissa to work with Lottie, but Taissa is extremely skeptical of Lottie's ability to help.

Van however is a believer in Lottie's methods to connecting with nature and the group. Natalie is still frustrated that Lottie is keeping Tavis' hope about Javi being alive. On their hunt later that day, they argue about Lottie's symbolic ritual with Travis advocating for Lottie's spiritual leadership. Travis and Natalie split up in their search for food. When they meet up again near the end of the day, Natalie presents Travis with a pair of Javi's pants that she staged with blood to make it look like he had died in the wilderness. Travis grieves his brother as he finally believes Natalie when she says Javi is dead.

yellowjackets survivors stand near a fire

Back at camp, Taissa finds out what Shauna has been doing with Jackie in the meat shed and exposes her to the rest of the group. Lottie attempts to defend Shauna, but Taissa convinces the group it is time to lay Jackie to rest. They agree to cremate Jackie's remains despite Shauna's weak protests. Crystal suggests they remove Jackie's clothes as they are a precious resource, but Shauna gets violently defensive over Jackie under Lottie's protection. Lottie gifts Shauna Jackie's necklace before the body is placed on the pyre.

When Natalie and Travis return, Lottie can't believe that Javi is dead. Shauna says her goodbyes to Jackie and Travis places Javi's pants with Jackie as a symbol of his goodbyes. That night, Natalie and Travis become intimate, their relationship taking the next step now that Travis has accepted his brother is gone. Though during the experience, Travis is reminded of how he felt when Lottie reassured him through his panic attack, complicating the experience.

As the wind blows in the night, it dumps a large pile of snow on Jackie's funeral pyre. It changes the cremation into a slow roast of her remains. The survivors wake up to the smell of the cooked flesh and flock to the body. The episode intercuts the Yellowjackets' decision to indulge in cannibalism with a symbolic Greek inspired feast of classic indulgences. Ben flees from the scene, unable to bear witness to the atrocity as the other survivors turn feral as they consume Jackie's flesh.
