WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 40 of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, "The Three Princesses Escape," now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Animelab, and Hulu.
After Sesshōmaru transported the three half-demon princesses into the Black Pearl to protect them from Kirinmaru, they meet up with Inuyasha and Kagome at their grandfather's grave. Inuyasha soon hatched a plan to utilize Towa's Tenseiga wielding abilities to call upon the sword and reunite it with the Tessaiga, allowing them to open Gozu and Mezu's gate to the Border of the Afterlife and return to the real world. However, their relief was short-lived when the Tenseiga guided them to the Tree of Ages where Sesshōmaru was dying and Towa must risk her own life to save him.
As the Great Dog Demon family was trapped in the Border of the Afterlife, they watched Sesshōmaru's brave standoff against Kirinmaru despite his lethal condition. In a hurry to save him, Inuyasha rushed everyone to the inside of his father's stomach where the Tenseiga and Tesseiga are supposed to be paired. After he offered up his Tesseiga, he asked Towa to summon the Tenseiga so she could wield it once more. Sesshōmaru sensed Towa calling the Tenseiga despite his weak state, pulling the sword out in front of Kirinmaru and letting it go so it can find his daughter. The power of the Great Dog Demon was released onto the battlefield and Kirinmaru flees, allowing Sesshōmaru to collapse after ensuring his wife's safety. The Tenseiga successfully reached Towa and she's able to pick it up after Setsuna and Moroha help her pour demon energy into it.
While the family prepared their escape, Shippo and Takechiyo arrived at Sango's home where they were greeted by her two twin daughters. Gyokuto and Kin'u were excited to see Shippo and they started to catch up before Sango came out to ask if he had found Kagome and Inuyasha. As Shippo tells her he hasn't found them, Takechiyo interjected to show them the Black Pearl and explained how everyone is currently trapped inside it. After finding out that Kirinmaru was trying to kill the Great Dog Demon family, Sango revealed the Black Hiraikotsu and hurried to summon Miroku, Kohaku, and Hisui.
Shippo and Takechiyo later rushed off to the location of Gozu and Mezu's gate as they wait for everyone's return from the Border of the Afterlife. Towa used her Tenseiga to create a bridge and offered up the sword to Gozu and Mezu who open the gate. After 14 years trapped inside the Black Pearl, Kagome and Inuyasha can finally leave along with the three half-demon princesses as Towa's Tenseiga immediately started acting up and pulling her along. They all quickly deduced that something is wrong with Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha shows an uncharacteristic amount of urgency and concern for his older half-brother. As they re-entered the real world, they're finally reunited with an emotional Takechiyo and Shippo before he took them all to the Bone-Eater's Well in search of Sesshōmaru.
Meanwhile, Rin and Jaken rushed Sesshōmaru to the Tree of Ages after he collapsed to wait for their daughters to come to the rescue. The Tenseiga successfully guided Towa and Setsuna to their parents in the tree and they're shocked to see their mother in real life for the first time. While Rin is happy and brought to tears upon seeing her daughters, their cheerful reunion is ruined by Sesshōmaru's deadly condition. The daughters gasped in horror when they finally saw the state their father is in after he saved them from Kirinmaru's ultimate attack.
Jaken told Towa she must save her father by absorbing all of Kirinmaru's demon energy that's stealing Sesshōmaru's Haku and killing him. Towa doesn't hesitate to pull out the Zanseiken sword Rion gave her and she used the power of the Kyuyokon Root to absorb Kirinmaru's demonic energy that plagued Sesshōmaru's body. Rin and Setsuna cheered Towa on as her efforts appeared to be working, but Kirinmaru's demonic energy began attacking her as she absorbed it. Sesshōmaru told her to stop and warned that she'll die if she continued, but Towa kept absorbing all the demon energy until Sesshōmaru's body was clear of it. Afterward, Towa collapsed as Rin and Setsuna looked on in helpless terror.
In a surprising turn of events, Towa may die in her father's place after he saved and reunited the Great Dog Demon family. Fans will have to wait to see if Sesshōmaru will heal and be able to take care of his family and save his daughter once again. Meanwhile, fans are looking forward to a long-awaited reunion between Sango and Miroku with the rest of Inuyasha's original cast.
