The Young Adult Library Services Association (YASLA) has announced its inaugural list of recommended graphic novels for teens. The fastest growing division of the Adult Library Association, YASLA is the first part of the organization to recognize graphic novels and comics as a growing field of literature. The nomination committee worked to narrow what began as 141 official nominations down to a final list of 67 excellent adult and young adult graphic novel titles that range across many genres, including serious non-fiction, fantasy, manga and superhero fiction. All finalists met the committee's criteria of both good quality literature and appeal for readers ages 12-18.

Among the titles honored are Scott McCloud's "Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels," which was placed in the non-fiction category. Kyle Baker's "Plastic Man: Rubber Bandits," Warren Ellis & Stuart Immonen's "Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E.," and Brad Meltzer & Rags Morales' "Identity Crisis" were all found in the fiction category.

In addition to the complete list of sixty-seven finalists, YASLA has announced a list of their top ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens:
