The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting is a brand-new seinen comedy anime series that may be geared toward older adult viewers who want a respite from all the high school-based anime out there and try something relatively new. The protagonist of this wholesome tale is the tough blue-haired mobster Kirishima Toru, renowned as the vicious "dragon of Sakuragi" far and wide. He thinks that crime and violence are the essence of his life, but his life is about to take on a whole new meaning with his latest assignment. Now he is asked not to smuggle drugs or crack some skulls but instead, babysit the boss's young daughter, the red-headed Sakuragi Yaeka.

Toru is good at what he does, but this new challenge will test him like never before, and Toru will have to get creative and dig deep within himself to become the kind of man who can care for a child as a protective paternal figure. A variety of Japanese and Western movies, TV shows and comics follow the "tough guy becomes nicer" paradigm, finding humor in a bad guy getting tamed, but this can also prove that there is always more than one side to a person, not just their job or criminal ways.

Toru is seen only as a savage criminal, but deep down, he is capable of good, and he and the viewers alike will explore a whole new side to him and see if he can handle the challenge while also becoming a better man in the process. Watching a yakuza thug babysit a little girl may be funny, but it should also have some emotional and thematic depth as well. There may be more to Kirishima Toru than meets the eye.
