The titular main character of Ya Boy Kongming! has showcased his various talents on numerous occasions in the past. Despite hailing from ancient times, Kongming's quick wit and fast learning allow him to acquire modern skills with ease. In fact, he even works as a bartender at night -- and a superb one at that. Now in Episode 5, Kongming once again wows viewers with yet another modern talent.
To reach their quota for Eiko to meet the minimum requirement to perform at Summer Sonia, Kongming suggested getting Eiko a partner, telling her she needs a rapper to accomplish that feat. As usual, he supports her by doing the legwork -- and he manages to find the perfect choice in Episode 5.
Most of Ya Boy Kongming! Episode 5 was dedicated to the rapper Kabetaijin and his present struggles. Kongming -- rocking a tracksuit as his signature clothing was still in the wash -- only appeared when Kabetaijin went to the laundromat and met the genius tactician for the first time. Though their meeting seemed coincidental, Kongming revealed how far that was from the truth when he blurted out Kabetaijin's music credentials. The rapper was understandably perplexed by Kongming's statement, initially assuming this stranger had been sent by his persistent rival.
Kabetaijin rejected Kongming's offer to work with Eiko, but the tactician wasn't going down without a fight. Kongming himself started rapping -- and his skill petrified the professional. By the end of his performance, Kabetaijin is captivated enough to hear out Kongming's proposal. That's when the tactician makes a bet, challenging his new acquaintance to a rap battle. Should he win, Kabetaijin will partner up with Eiko; if Kabetaijin wins, Kongming promises to grant him a wish.
Although Kabetaijin pointed out that Kongming's rap was more akin to a sutra, it is still impressive that Kongming was able to perform to a star's satisfaction. He not only managed to impress Kabetaijin, but was also able to elicit a rhyme from the reluctant champion. Of course, his rapping performance is only a part of his bigger plan.
Given Kongming's cunning tactics, it is reasonable to assume Kabetaijin will end up being Eiko's partner one way or another. Even if Kabetaijin does lose the battle, Kongming's plan probably includes an element that will make him want to be Eiko's partner anyway.
Kongming has once again proven his capabilities by amusing a rapping champion with his own rapping skills. Even though his performance is brief, the challenge and subsequent bet implies that viewers will be hearing more of his raps in future episodes of Ya Boy Kongming!
