The trailer for FX's Y: The Last Man series is here.

Set to the tune of James Brown's classic 1966 song "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," the trailer shows chaos spreading across the world as every mammal with a Y chromosome abruptly and violently dies. As the survivors attempt to rebuild society in the aftermath, Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) emerges as the only cisgender man to survive the event and sets off on a journey accompanied by his newfound pet monkey Ampersand. Meanwhile, Yorick's mother and the incumbent U.S. President Jennifer Brown (Diane Lane) struggles to restore order to the planet.

Based on the acclaimed Vertigo Comics series of the same name created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man also stars Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann and Olivia Thirlby as Yorick's sister Hero Brown. The show went through a tumultuous journey on its way to the screen, with its original pilot episode filming in 2018 before the departure of showrunners Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal, as well as lead actor Barry Keoghan. Eliza Clark replaced Green and Croal as showrunner in June 2019, with the plan being to start production on a revamped Y: The Last Man series in April 2020. Of course, the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic prevented that from happening.

Instead, FX's Y: The Last Man didn't begin shooting until October 2020 under the new health and safety protocols in place for film and TV productions during the pandemic. Producer Mari-Jo Winkler confirmed the end of filming in late July this year, with Clark expressing her gratitude to the show's cast and crew while sharing photos on social media. "It is impossible to express how profoundly these people have changed my life. Working in the middle of COVID, quarantined together away from home, they brought all of themselves every single day... I am so excited for the show to be out in the world," Clarke wrote.

Rounding out Y: The Last Man's supporting cast are Juliana Canfield as Beth DeVille, Marin Ireland as Nora Brady and Amber Tamblyn as Kimberly Cunningham. The show premieres its first two episodes on Sept. 13 on FX on Hulu, with the first season spanning ten episodes in total.
