When Y: The Last Man finally premieres, it will have a major change to its cast.

PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange reported that the role of Ampersand, Yorick Brown's pet monkey, will be brought to life with CGI. "For over two years, PETA has been urging the Y: The Last Man team not to prop up a cruel industry that tears baby monkeys away from their mothers and forces them to endure a miserable life stuck inside cages and in front of cameras," Lange wrote in a letter. "The decision to switch to computer-generated imagery is the only ethical option for depicting animals on screen and is welcome news for primates who suffer in the entertainment industry."

PETA previously slammed the show for its decision to use a real-life capuchin for Ampersand in the original Y: The Last Man pilot. They argued in a statement that with the advances in technology, there was no need to subject real-life animals to such harmful conditions.

Y: The Last Man is based on the DC/Vertigo series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra. It focuses on Yorick Brown, who becomes the last remaining man on the planet after a mysterious virus. Originally set to debut on FX, the show will now premiere through Hulu's FX hub. It stars Ben Schnetzer, Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Amber Tamblyn, Marin Ireland, Lashana Lynch and Juliana Canfield. A release date has not been set.
