Amber Tamblyn has joined the cast of FX's Y: The Last Man, based on the acclaimed DC/Vertigo comic series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

Deadline reports the actress, known for her roles on House and Joan of Arcadia, will play Mariette Callows, daughter of the U.S. president. Tamblyn joins Barry Keoghan, Diane Lane, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield and Marin Ireland.

Y: The Last Man follows Yorick Brown (played in the pilot by Keoghan), an amateur escape artist who, with his pet Capuchin monkey Ampersand, is the only man to survive  a mysterious plague that killed every other male mammal on Earth. The two set off on a globe-spanning journey to reunite with Yorick’s girlfriend, discover what wiped out the world’s Y chromosomes and find out why they survived. That premise will set the adaptation apart from all other post-apocalyptic stories with its overwhelmingly female cast.

Tamblyn's character Mariette is described as having been "groomed for a career in politics and to uphold her father’s conservative values." She appears to be a new character created for the show rather than drawn from the source material. However, the first arc in the comic deals with a confrontation at the White House between the new administration and a militant group of Republican widows, so it's likely Mariette will play an important part in the show's version of those events.

is being produced by FX, with Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal as showrunners and executive producers. The pilot episode is directed by Melina Matsoukas.
