Diane Lane and Barry Keoghan will headline the cast of FX's Y: The Last Man pilot, an adaptation of the acclaimed comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

The DC/Vertigo series follows Yorick Brown, an amateur escape artist who, with his pet Capuchin monkey Ampersand, is the last survivor of a mysterious plague that killed every other male mammal on Earth. The two set off on a globe-spanning journey to reunite with Yorick’s girlfriend, discover what wiped out the world’s Y chromosomes and find out why they survived.

FX has announced Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) will star as Yorick, while Lane (Under the Tuscan Son, Justice League) will play his mother, Sen. Jennifer Brown.

They're joined by Imogen Poots (Green Room) as Yorick's tough-talking paramedic sister Hero; Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) as Agent 355, a deadly Secret Service agent; Juliana Canfield (Succession) as Yorick's girlfriend Beth, who unlike in the comics is described as a "Brooklyn-based knife maker"; and Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water) as Nora, "the president's senior assistant and right hand." Nora wasn't a big character in the comics, but it sounds as if she's being given more focus in the adaptation.

Michael Green, who recently left the Starz series American Gods, will serve as showrunner, along with Aida Mashaka Croal of Luke Cage and Turn. Melina Matsoukas of Insecure will direct the pilot.
