Paramount Pictures will distribute "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," the long-awaited action sequel that sees Vin Diesel reprise his role as the extreme athlete turned government operative.

The announcement arrives this morning with the first details about the plot of the film, directed by D.J. Caruso: The third film in the franchise finds Cage coming out of a self-imposed exile, and on a collision course with "deadly alpha warrior" Xiang and his team in a race to recover a seemingly unstoppable weapon called Pandora's Box. Recruiting a new group of thrill-seekers, Cage is soon embroiled in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest level of world governments.

It's already shooting in Toronto, with additional film set for the Dominican Republic.

Produced by Revolution Studios, Roth Kirschenbaum Films and Vin Diesel’s One Race Films, "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" also stars Jet Li, Samuel L. Jackson, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose and Deepika Padukone.
